New member here, first post. First, thanks for the information that has been provided by all.

We installed an Accentra last year and are extremely satisfied. We have burned about 75 bags of Maine's Choice and a few other misc bags. It is really more than simple monetary savings, it is a quality of life issue as I am far less miserly with the pellets compared to the oil. The pellet stove has done such a good job that the oil heat has not turned on once this year - we have only burned about 3/8's of a tank heating the hot water since it was filled last july.

It has been a mild winter in New Hampshire, do not know if we will get away without using the oil heat in a normal year.

Question: Is there any reason that we should periodically cycle the oil heat? The oil burner is only a few years old.

Yup, just so you can hear it burning money and remember why you got your pellet stove. Seriously though I run my oil furnace a couple times a month just to draw in a little new fuel and see that it still runs if I need it. Figure it can't hurt.

I put in an electric hot water heater cost about $400 now I the oil furnance never goes on except on very cold nights to even out the temps in the house

I like to run my oil furnace for one or two cycles every week while I am cleaning the stove.
It gives me a little piece of mind that it would still work correctly in the event of the pellet stove going out.

I would think that if your heating your water with your oil burner you are cycling it that way unless you don't shower much.Only things not cycling would be the circulating pumps.

I have forced hot water heat and the pellet stove. I put a couple of Thermo Guards in to turn on the furnace on every 4 hours for 5 minutes so I don't freeze any pipes. One on each thermostat loop. So far no problems
