Came home from work and the wife (see usually does really well) had a smoldering fire going in the Quad.Within a half hour I had it burning great and went about the after work chores.Thought that she had plenty of wood in the stove to last till the overnight load around 8:30 or 9:00 so I made dinner then she went to work.8:00 and just a nice bed of coals, thought I would load up early. With in 15 minutes the stove is starting to humm and I have it shut down.check the doors, side door, air control and it just kept rolling.Stood and looked for a minute and thought start up air!Pulled the slide out and I'm back in control.Almost china syndrome, can't believe she left it open.

time fer you and her to have a little "chat". Let us know how that werks out for ya!! ;-P

Now you know why we have a simple one control stove.

No offense but I have never understood more than one control on the stove. Good thing you got it figured out. I'm always fine tuning the technique of the better half depending on the type of wood or time of year.

To tell the truth I wasn't really aware of the start up air when I bought the stove new.I was looking for a quality stove or insert for cheep like every one else. One control would be easier but for 1300$ and the mahogany finish I will live with it.

I haven't see this stove burning, but on the floor it looked like a nice, well made stove. How has it worked out for you?

Actually it's worked well for the 3 years sense i bought it.I have easy over night burns, just need a little better draft(14' of liner in a fireplace install).
I probably should have caught the start-up air being open sooner but I never use it.No other problems, lots of heat.

Do you mostly front or side load the stove? How are your burn times?

It's tucked slightly to far inside the fireplace to fully open the side door.Seams to like a n/s lode anyway. The wife liked it back in the fireplace better, but I have plenty of room to pull the stove out if I get the urge.
I have went over 10 hrs. on a full load of Osage with lots of big coals left.
