I have a LA145 John Deere. It is 1 1/2 years old with 47 hrs. It won't start unless I jump. I've let it run for 45 minutes and then go to start, it begins to crank and thne nothing. No sound at all. Fuse is fine. New battery only after 1 1/2 years? Or could it be something else? I will charge battery today and then go from there.

LA145 has the Briggs Twin no? L118's (Same tractor, different hood) had the same issue years ago. Was a grounding problem. If charging your battery fixes it then check to make sure the engine charges the battery while it's running. If it does (13.2v or better at full RPM) then just toss the battery. For some reason the OEM batteries from Deere often crap out after the 1st season of use. Highly recommend you pick up an Interstate SP35 as the replacement.

If charging your battery starts the machine no problem then you don't have the grounding issue that was present on the L118's.

Standard batteries are not like deep cycle batteries. You may let them set and discharge one time charge it up and be fine. The next time it may kill it for good. They like being kept at full charge all the time. Start engine and then get charged back up. Probably the biggest killer of atv batteries. But then again it could have just been defective.
