So I decided to go for a peak. Tree company clearing the lines. They left me some small samples today. Most of the big stuff will come down tomorrow.

What's your ID on the following round? The grain both looks and smells like Locust, but the total tree doesn't. Look at the rear part of the tree. Is it possible that this is two actually two different trees growing together? And how about the real yellowish kerf (sawdust). That is a small pin oak round to the right.

Round in question vs. Pin Oak round. Look at difference in sawdust.

my guess is mulberry or locust. fine burnin stuff either way.

Mulberry for sure. I will let you know how it burns in about 18 months when I get to my stash.

I'd say Mulberry too. Definately not black locust, and although the heartwood looks a little like honey locust the sapwood and bark doesn't look right at all.

Definitely Mulberry, combo of the bark & yellowish orange heartwood is no doubt.Great stuff, very close to Red Oak in density & heat value.

Mulberry... Love it!

Had to laugh at the title.
I got some a few years ago, I heard a saw running from a direction that wasn't normal. Had to go check it out.
Hoped on the bike & sure enough, power company clearing the ROW.
Back to the house, got the truck, 2 good loads of birch.

Nice score, high BTU wood! :)

I'll jump on the Mulberry wagon, but not sure about the other round. Bark looks like it could be Pin Oak but the end of the round doesn't look right...

Woody...it's Pin Oak for sure. Just a real young one. About 11 years old, we counted the rings after we cut her down. I have more on the property.
