Ok, so today is pretty mild today and I didnt have the insert going for the past two days so I could do some cleaning and inpecting. When I dismantled the blower to clean it I noticed quite a bit of hair collecting on the inside. What do most of you do to prevent the blower from being clogged with hair and other debris? I clean the hearth daily, however the dog loves laying in front for the warmth. I was thinking of a mesh piece like window screen over the front grate might work but not sure. Thanks in advance.

I know what you are talking about, when I had my Maine Coon cat he would love to sit in front of the fireplace, that cat would shed so much I had to clean the blowers every month. My XTD doesn't really have room on the inside to put filters but if yours has room and stays cool I would say try it, get some of those green filters for floor furnaces from Lowes and cut them to fit.

Even after brushing that cat once a month and getting enough hair to fill a bathtub he would still clog up the blowers.

I one time had heavy smoke blowing out of my insert, then sparks- pretty scary. Not sure why I didn't turn it off- maybe I was hammered. Anyway- I'm sure that a spark got sucked in during reload and with all that crap built up and the airflow it's a recipe for disaster. I clean it fairly regularly now (thankfully my dogs don't shed).

My blower wants to be cleaned out and oiled every month or so anyway.

I run the vacuum fuzzy pickup dealeo over the intake screen every now and then.

I take my blower off the Lopi Revere insert twice each season, run an air hose outside the garage and give it a good cleaning with compressed air at about 80 psi. That removes all the dust, ash, hair and anything else that may be lodged within the two fans. It's amazing how much more efficiently that blower works when it's clean.

The Furminator rocks!!

Coyotes have taken care of my cats but do have a dog that sheds, check and clean on a regular basis. A clean stove is a happy one.
