Demand is at a 10 year low over supply right now yet it keeps going up.We areheld hostage by the speculators

You can also blame the falling dollar, and inflation in general. Oil is traded in dollars, internationally.

All those dollars printed by Bernanke have to go somewhere... now you know where.

Plus resource scarcity comes into play here too.

India and China want the same lifestyle we have here in the US. Something has to give.

It's the first time this had happened in nearly 20 years by the way. People should remember this when some politician or lobbyist for Big Oil claims we need more domestic production in order to lower the price of gasoline, fuel oil, etc. It simply isn't true as most increased production will most likely be exported and do very little to lower domestic prices. The Keystone Pipeline project is one such example. That additional tar sands, low quality, crude will only be exported as diesel or some other lesser refined petroleum product as it's very difficult and expensive to refine tar sands oil. Don't believe the man behind the curtain folks. About all we can do as consumers is limit our individual use of any petroleum product as much as possible.

good point, couldn't have said it better my self, it's the whole reason i burn pellets. The biggest corporate welfare out there is big oil. As far as speculators go the rules are set to change on that in october, not in time for summer but at least it's on it's way.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/25/business/economy/new-rule-gives-commodities-speculators-a-break.html?_r=1 this looks like it might not help, seems like wall street got it's hands on it

I kind of wish THEY would just say we are going to just rob you blind, rather than oh in Iran or China or whatever. It doesn't matter if its a country we import oil from if there is a conflict they blame it on it. It won't make it any better but just say We're going to stick it to you and we have no reason just want to make a couple more Billion dollars this quarter.
