I just picked up 5 bags of powerhouse pellets to try out, I can get them for $189/ton. They seem to be burning ok, they are cut small like Hamers and putout decent heat. I had been burning Turmans that I got for $211 last year, I burned through 2 of the 4 tons I had for this year. I am thinking I may buy 2 tons of the Powerhouse for next year at this price. After I finish burning all 5 bags I will let ya know how the stove liked them as far as ash and cleaning etc. These are the same as Great American Pellets.

Wow...that's a good price for the PH if they burn good for you.....How much is the Turman now?

Good to hear...

Depending how much of my C&C's are left over for next year, I may want to get some of those. Since I expect we'll have a "real" winter next year I am hoping to score some of the super-premium pellets for the cold weather but will need others for the rest of the season...

Havn't yet received end of season pricing on the Turmans from my source yet. I expect they will be around the $215 mark.

If Turman is $215, I don't think I'd mess with the PH....but the PH are a local company if your into supporting the locals.......

I will have 2 ton of the Turmans left over from this year yet and I did have some problems with the Turmans building up a hard layer on my pot floor causing it to get stuck open when it auto cleaned and thus loosing heat until i woke up to grind it off. I never had this problem with any other pellet. I do really like Turmans but think I will give the local guys a shot and save a couple bucks too. The Turmans may be much more too I don't know yet.

Well after burning only 2 of the 5 bags I bought, I woke up to a cool house this morning. I went down stairs, and she was burning with a tall lazy flame with black tips. The entire inside of the stove was solid black and sooty inside. I knew right away what had happened. The pellets formed a huge clinker that did not drop out when it autocleaned, the clinker became so big that it almost filled the entire pot and covered all the pot holes causing a lack of combustion air to the pot. Not Happy; I cleaned it out and switched it to utility pellet setting which auto cleans every hour which I do not like, hoping it will burn the rest without issue. Given this problem, I will be sticking with my Turman's for next year, they burn very hot and hardly any ash at all. I gave Power House a try but I don't wanna fight with them all season long. Anyone else have any issues with them?

Sorry they didn't work out for you. I'm burning the Great Americans never had a clinker in almost 2 ton, only issue I had was a bridge with a batch that had some long pellets. That's why we say try a few to see if your stove / set up likes them before you commit to tons.

I changed my stove settings to utility pellet and am burning on medium-low, they seem to be doing a lot better. Seems as long as I dont burn on low setting for too long they may be ok. I will let ya know how they do after I burn a few more bags, I got 3 left. They seem to be putting off better heat now also.

tsmith, I am brand new to burning pellets and am finishing up my third full week of completely heating with our pellet stove. Turmans were recommended to me and I purchased a ton and they have been doing a wonderful job. Great heat and low ash! I am in the York area and was wondering where you get your Turmans - your expectation of a $215 mark for end of the season pricing certainly caught my attention and I'm wondering if it wouldn't pay me to make a road trip.

Thanks in advance for any info you pass along!

I'd appreciate hearing that as well. I'd travel to pick up a couple tons of Barefoots or Turmans, ideally a couple tons of each. I'm plan to borrow my father's dually pickup to get it done.

Hey guys, sorry it took so long to respond, I get the Turmans at Kegerreis stoves on route 183 IN Bernville, PA. Last Year I bought them in May for $211/ton, I am hoping for similar prices this preseason. If you bought your stove there you can get them for $10 dollars less than everybody else so that made them $201 last season, I did not get my stove there though. I am hoping to soon get the sales flyer from them, if I do I will post prices.

Cozy Barn in Wind Gap Pa has Turman 4.80 a bag and GAP 190 a ton! They also have Keystone.

After burning all 5 bags and adjusting my settings, the Power House pellets burned pretty decent. They provided good heat, the glass stayed fairly clean and they seemed to last fairly long. A little more ash than the Turmans, but I don't mind cleaning my stove and emptying the ash pan. I am going to wait until I find out what I can get Turmans for before deciding, but I have no problem in purchasing a couple tons of Power House. If the pricing stays low, it will be a very good deal on very good pellets and they are local and I like supporting the local guys. If anybody out there can get them I wouldn't hesitate.

I've tried contacting Powerhouse twice via their website to find a local retailer in my area, but they have yet to respond even though they say they will do so within one business day. It's been several business days. Has anyone else had this issue?

Also, I am in the south central Pennsylvania area. Does anyone know of a retailer that handles these pellets?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Glad to hear that they worked out for you thanks for the update. It's great that a local company can produce a quality pellet, I have Turman's in my stash they are just more costly than GAP's/ Power House currently $.90/ bag more. With the way fuel oil prices are going I only see that price difference growing. It's nice to have options.
