Can we fit a ton of pellets in a Jeep Cherokee Sport and an S-10 pickup? Or is that pushing the weight limits?

We're learning; we're trying. :) Many thanks!!

I believe that would be pushing it I think. I put about 18 bags in my dodge caravan, so you might be able to get a few more in your cars.

I would check the load limits on the vehicle usually posted on a plate attached to the side of your drivers side door. It will give you the safe load limit of passengers and cargo combined. You'll probably find some people tend to push these limits. IMHO it's a good idea to try and stay within them.

The title is way wrong > 'New Question'. It's a very OLD question that's been beaten to death even just recently. Use the 'Search' feature to find all the boasting and bragging. :p

 Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No. My 2008 Liberty says 950 lbs total. I have a 98 Cherokee that I had put a lot of stuff in over the years and had to replace the leaf springs. I don't think it will take over 1000 lbs.

Gee, it surprises me...... I'm thinking 4 250# people in each vehicle would be do-able...... we'll check door panels for limits!

Thanks for the feedback!

Apologies for the incorrect title..... we're new, and learning.....

I read the question as a ton split between the two vehicles.....
answer might be closer to yes,

Yes, I stated "and", not "or"..........

Not all of us have the background/experience that you all have. We're trying to learn. Thanks for your help.

Yeh I misread too. I thought one ton in one vehicle, sorry. My friend had 17 bags (680lbs) in his Ford Focus, so a bigger vehicle could do more.

20 bags is legal limit if I leave my wife home lol, a Sonoma.

only one way to find out !

if it were me...id go for it and see what happens

Not sure about an s10, but I regularly put more than 1000lbs in my Tacoma with no worries.

Ive carried 20 bags in a Focus before. .If you add the 800 lbs, to the average man (200 lbs), you get 1,000 lbs. Or as someone said above. The equivalent of 4 four 250 men. I wouldnt be afraid of putting four grown men in a car.

Split between the 2. Its doable.

You gettin the Somersets then?

I comfortably carried a half ton in my 2004 grand cherokee with plenty of suspension travel remaining, just make sure you pump your tires to max pressure and take it easy on the ride home.

I have a mid 80s S-10 long box that says its rated for 1500 pounds. A half ton is all I dare put in it if I still want to steer and stop. It handles bad enough empty much less with a load of pellets. :)

Like the Post Office says, "If it fits, it ships"!! But if it were me NO WAY, Just let us know what roads you are going to be on and when. TOO much weight.

I've also done the same with my grand cherokee with a straight six.. I never noticed an issue of ride or power..breaking is another story :red:

I put 40 bags in a 2006 Dodge Durango. It had higher payload capacity than my Ford Ranger pickup.

Technically, it was over with me included but I had no problems whatsoever.

2" lift and 31" tires on this and it still shows
a good amount of squattage (is that a word?)
when hauling a half ton (yes I get 25 bags in there).
Moral of the story, I wouldn't go more than
a half ton in either one of those vehicles.

I put 16 bags at a time in my Honda Civic Si Hatchback. Thats the weight limit according to the manual including my weight. I can't believe the SUVs and light trucks can't carry more. Check your owner's manual. I usually stop by Lowe's (or whichever supply store has the best deal) on my way home from work every day for a few weeks to get my winter supply of pellets. Its much easier on my back too instead of moving 3 to 4 tons in one day and a nice daily workout.

Same ride, V8, no problem. I have done half a ton many times...I agree with checking tire pressure
