Just wondering if most people keep spare parts on hand and what they consist of. I've been stockpiling a few but wonder if it's a wise move since you never know if you'll use 'em.

Smoke, Earth Sense I presume? Do thet ship fast? Dale is a hike for me and the local stocks zero parts.

I have a spare ignitor, and can get an auger motor from Gleason-Avery pretty quick. Also, 2-3 comb. motor gaskets....that's it.

Ignitor, combustion blower, ash pan gasket, door gasket, thermocouple. Thats for the Quad.

The Englander and Fahrenheit have both had the combustion blowers replaced within the last year. The old ones still work and now after a full clean and some good lubing, could be put in for a couple days till a new one arrives.

The Quad was our Main heat source until this yr. Thats why I have so much for it.

1 combustion motor gasket, 1 clean used combustion motor, 1 hopper seal kit...tried to buy a convection motor today but was the wrong part (20% off) was bummed.

My dealer stocks parts for me.
mine to

A couple of items my dealer doesn't stock. And now that my unit isn't made anymore, I might need to stock more. Good place to start is to see what your local dealer carries.

Hello

Since I have the experience of fixing and refurbishing a few pellet stoves, I got a chance to see what parts fail the most.

The Low Limit Switch and the High limit switch seem to fail the most!! So I do have some of those on hand. The $5.50 White Rodgers generic replacements from http://www.pexsupply.com seem to work in most cases. The Quad needed the generic bracket also for $2.20 or I could have got the more expensive OEM swithch from Quadrafire for twice the price and twice the time to get it!

Anyway, I do not keep expensive parts like blowers and augers on hand. I can usually get them in a few days.

Blowers expensive, nah, you just have to look around a bit. and never toss the ones that go bad.

What's expensive is fuel oil.

X2- I have a brand new Trane Forced air furnace thats supposed to be Super Efficient with all brand new insulated duct work. Still costs almost $4,000 a yr.

No thanks. I will keep some parts on hand. But I have a back-up plan this year, and if that fails. I have a back-up to my back-up plan!! ;-P

Oh no doubt on that one!!! He has so much fire power there he can fire up all of his units, open the doors and windows, and raise the temperature in the county by 3-5 degrees!!!

Yeah I'm jealous.

Yeah I'm jealous.

I've got a few BTU's to throw out there.

But...... You too my friend have some yourself. That furnace of yours seems like a beast. I dont know if everyone seen your thread on it. Quite impressive if I might add. Then your CPM!!! (Jealous guy right here  ) and then your Baby in the Shop (if connected to the house could handle some of the duties?) That makes you a 3 stove burner too...

You gotta admit Dew, having options is nice. Last night we ran just the Quad for the 1st time in awhile. My Son was at my parents, so we closed his door, turned off the furnace (Fahrenheit) and let the Quad idle on Low all night. 74° when I woke up this morning through the house and 72° in the bedrooms (78° dining room with pellet stove, but no one is in that room, always warmer in the stove room)

Had a fire in the basement too. But kept all doors closed. That helps raise the temp down there and better warms the floor under that area (Kitchen, Kids rooms, spare bath, and Master bath) with the Kitchen and both baths having hardwood floors installed (warm feet ;-P ).

Options. Cant hate a guy for having options? Can you???

(Jrsdws - How goes the CPM?? Running good? How did she do last night? Pretty cold in my neck of the woods last night?)

Can't deny that having options is sweet!!! BTW...I can't stop watching the video of your Quad...I love that thing, man.

I ran one pot on the beast last night on a medium setting as we dipped into the teens and the wind was supposed (and did) come up. That wind is bringing us some warmer temps today though. Forecast of 53deg and windy. The CPM was in on/off mode with the tstat and never kicked in all night. I'll be shutting the beast down soon and handing the heating chores over to the CPM alone for about the next week it looks like. I have to get everything perfected AND teach the wifey and son how to keep warm with it this week because I have some work travel coming up in a week.

As for the original post - All I have for spares now is a combustion blower for Baby Countryside (only because I upgraded to high output). I plan on stocking an ignitor for the CPM, limit switches, and fuses for all units, though.

I now have a spare super igniter thanks to a warranty claim that was finally honored by that "ebay" seller. I was going to just get a few of those $20 cartridge heaters from grainger. Thats what I am using now. I also keep some lighter gel and matches around and of course some of this http://www.all-spec.com/products/82180.html. Works like a charm in a pinch.

Yes that stuff works like a charm in a pinch, just make certain that you replace it with the proper stuff as soon as possible, it transfers heat better than the original fiber gasket and thus can shorten the life of your combustion blower motor.

Since our dealer went out due to tax evasion, I've since found one fairly close that stocks parts. Breckwell has been very good for us in getting parts. But on hand, I have 1 rebuilt combustion blower, 1 ash pan, gaskets, 1 high limit switch, and thanks for reminding me, I need to order a proof of fire switch.

Yes, I work in GB and they have had an ignitor and misc gaskets when I needed them.

Of course Dale has a lot more.

The stores that are privately owned aren't as good.

Matter of fact Lena just closed its doors I believe.

Lena? I used to go out with her before she met Ole.....

Those are just rumors about Lena and me. Yup I'm an Ole (but then again so are about a 1/4 of our phone book)
