Cover plate set on the smallest opening will hopefully fix my high temp tripping using the hot Vermont pellets. I have all my 4" flex, clamps, insulation and assorted misc other pieces (if needed) I even have my screened vent painted in a textured brick color to try to blend in with the chimney bricks. The flex is even long enough for expansion to allow the stove to be pulled out on my new rail extension kit. My question is if I should insulated a portion of the flex. Let's pretend is bitterly cold out. This cold air comes through the flex into the stove (When it is off!) and turns the inside of the stove into a freezer. That's OK because with all the gaskets, my new" Freezer" shouldn't leak much. However, the uninsulated flex would be bitter cold and I am thinking it would make the area behind my insert just as cold and would be leaking into my family room........wouldn't it??? I would think that I would want to take some insulation wrap to put around a good portion of the flex, just making sure that I don't wrap it very tight, to allow tha pipe to expand and contract when I pull the stove out, or push in......the stove sits up just high enough to allow the flex to slope slightly downward to avoid any large amount of condensation from sliding into the intake.......thoughts?
