Interior AK
I'm in the market for a new stove and the Harman P68 is looking the best. It gets really cold up here in the AK. So I'm needing a workhorse. I have an Englander 25 PDVC installed right now and I enjoy the stove but after the -57 below zero we had this winter, I think it would be better suited for the shop. I'm just looking for some feedback from the P68 owners out there. How do you like your stove? Any complaints? Any other stoves I should think about? I have an Enviro and a quadrafire dealer in my area as well. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I had owned a p38 for 8 years, and I upgraded to a p61a because I wanted more heat as well. I have been incredibly happy with Harman products. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Harman stove. Harman stoves are great because you can go a long time between cleanings, and they are easy to clean once you get your rountine down. I also like the giant ash tray.

I'm running a Harman PC45 switched over to pure pellets (equal to a P61) and love it. WI isn't AK but a P68 isn't a PC45. Mine pumps out tons of heat and a 68 should do better still. Harmans are great but parts come from dealers and Harman won't talk to you on the phone. I've been lucky and not needed much in the way of parts but all stoves do break down from time to time. Just my 2 cents if it helps.

-57 below zero, put the P-68 to the test. I would take this stove into battle.

+1

I've had my P68 for four years. I am very satisfied. I had one little problem, but I have a good dealer who took care of it. I live in Northern New Hampshire where it gets as cold as anywhere in the continental US.

I, too , have had my P68 for 3 winters. I love it, no complaints whatsoever. I go through 3-4 tons a winter. Saving tons on oil and am much warmer! Go for it!

When I just had the P68, I went through 4 tons. Now, with the P68 and P38, I'm around 6 tons per year.

Not to get too picky here, but that's not quite a correct comparison...
The PC45 is rated at 50K BTU while burning strictly wood pellets.
The P61A is rated at 61K BTU...That's a considerable difference.
I thought about going for the P68 when I was looking to move up
from the P43, but the higher price ($300+/-) didn't justify the small
(7K BTU) increase in heat. I've put three tons thru the P61A &
our A-frame has never been warmer. Again, Upstate NY isn't AK
either & at -57, those extra 7K may be worth your investment.

Just my $.02

Thanks for all the feedback guys! How many tons is everybody going through with their stoves?
About 4 tons. 1500 sq ft 1st and 2nd floor combined.
A little oil for 2nd floor at times.
Love the Harman!

I just checked my owners manual and you're right I stand corrected. :red: I was thinking of the BTU's with the permanent conversion option which in turn would actually make it a P61. From an old Harman brochure- Concept
The PC 45 is first and foremost a state-of-the-art
corn stove. Its primary fuel is shelled corn. The
chassis is the Harman P61 pellet stove, a wellproven
workhorse in the unmatched Harman
Stove Company line. The engine is specifically
designed for burning corn. If the customer
desires, a different burn pot that is designed for
burning pellets can be installed without tools.

Permanent Pellet Conversion
It is possible that a customer may, at some
point, decide that he no longer desires to
burn corn. Perhaps corn is no longer readily
available in his area. The PC 45 corn/pellet
burn pot has the same bolt pattern as the P61
Harman pellet stove. This enables the customer
to permanently convert the PC 45 to
pellets if desired
