Hi all, it has been a while.
For the second time in about two weeks, for whatever reason I left my by-pass flap open after I loaded my wood. The good news is I found out the unit can handle it, but barely. Both times I wish I could have seen how hot the stack ended up (I have a gauge). While most of my stack is the double insulates 8", I have one section of strait black, and my TEE is also black. So naturally any foam insulation I had as the final coat on my water pipes melted.

Another interesting thing that happens is the water temp in the Eco over heats. This really baffles me that there would not be enough movement to circulate the water and keep things cool, because only water in the very top of the eco would be getting heated. I use the Laddomat for the pump transfer to my twin 500 gal tanks. If anyone can explain what this means I would love to know.

Lastly I have thought about installing an audible alarm on my flap/arm. However this would not work for me because I wont be around to hear it. My idea is for some sort of signal that might activate a call to my cell phone. This would be PEFECT, but I have no knowledge of what it would take to make this happen. Some sort of stack reading gauge with a set ceiling temp I guess. I have access to a phone line if it helps.

Limit switch installed inline with the damper arm. with an emergency light like the ones on an ambulance.

My wife and I have both done this once . It doesn't seem to create any problems except waste wood

Huff

Can a limit switch be connected to, say a laptop cpu and be programmed to send me a text or something?
Shoot, im surprised there in not an "app" for that.

Put a sign up somewhere you will see it before leaving your boiler room that reads ( Did You Close The Bypass ) Cheaper and Low Tech. I have a routine that before I leave the boiler room I check the bypass, check the upper and lower doors and make sure the unit is in the on mode.

Use a PID control and a switch. That's what I use and it works great. I use the switch to turn on a stack light. I use the control to turn on another stack light/alarm when the temp gets above 550. I also use the control to shut the fan off at 525 degrees. Others use this type of control to shut off the fan at the end of the burn but I found it to be more useful as a safety device rather a convenience or wood saving device. If someone wouldn't mind, can email them pics of my setup. I only have my iPod on me at the moment so I can't post pics.
