OK guys and gals: I'm this close (my thumb and forefinger are so close you cannot see air between them) to ordering one of these from Overstock. Judging from what's been posted here, most everyone loves them. Good quality, great heat, and superb support from the factory. This'll be my first stove, so I thought I'd go the frugal/economical route first...........to see if it's for me.........at least here in the "Peoples Republic of Illinois".

1. Clearance to the rear increase with double wall stove pipe and shields........why??

2. On those clearance tables, are the distances to the rear of the stove and flue collar measured from the same wall to the same stove simultaneously to get these values???

3. Does anyone have a more detailed schematic of the dimensions of this stove.............not just the generic LxWxH??? IOW, like flue collar to rear of stove........ash lip depth............outside box depth...........flue collar to side of stove etc.

I can get you these tomorrow.

Yes, its a great little stove for the price. How much are you trying to heat? I'm pushing the limits with this stove, when it gets below 20 degrees. It gets really hard to push it hardened enough to keep it up below 10. But my square footage is close to 1700 sq ft (if figured correcty). With those temps I get about 3 hours of useable heat, but in temperatures like what we are seeing I can push it out to 6-8 hours. But watchout for the beautiful secondaries these put off, its almost addicting to watch. Good Luck

99, I'll be heating my 1000-1100sq.ft. not real open ranch. The stove room is only 19x15 or so, and I can't have a stove dominate the room size wise or heat wise.

I'd like more detailed info so I can do some more measuring and detailed planning for install.

N/P I'll get them tomorrow for you.... it sounds like you should be setup just fine with that stove size in your area. If not mistaken, there was another member that had a setup very similar to yours this fall and she really liked it. Where mine sits it about the same area and it will do fine in that room, but trying to push the rest of the the main floor is where it becomes fun.

I have the nc13 in the 500sq basement its a great stove and get much heat up stairs (stairs only 10' from the stove).
The only down side is the small firebox. I can get overnight burns with coals to relight in the morn but stove is only 200f if that. As far as clearances the manual is confusing search the site here this topic has come up many times if i find the post send them.

I will say this for a stove in this price range you absolutely can't go wrong!!!

From what I was led to believe about the rear clearance w/double wall, the clearance is greater because the double wall pipe will increase draft over single wall, thus raising the temp of the stove.
My 13 is in a approx 850 sf (footprint) cape with a fairly open 1st floor. It's a great stove. I can get the heat moving around pretty well with fans. I think a 30 would have been too much stove for me but sometimes wish there was something in between the two for a longer burn time.

I can get you those measurement if you still need them.

Just be aware the NC-13 has tougher hearth requirements in the R-value department than many stoves as seen in this thread, https://www.hearth.com/econtent/index.php/forums/viewthread/63057/ .

I'll give them to you anyway

center flue collar to back of rear heat shield = 7 in.

" " " " side of top plate of stove = 12.75 in. Top plate extends 1 in beyond side of stove

ash lip depth = 4.75 in. from front of stove

Not sure what you mean by outside box depth.

Thanks ProjectX, blel and raybonz!!!! Ray, that link is great!!! I shouldn't have a problem finding micore. I live about half way in between Chitcago and Milwaukee...........lots of supply places in which to find the stuff!!!

I was just more concerned about measurements. Many other manufacturers give a "skeletonized" version of their stoves with heights, depths, distances between parts etc. Englander doesn't. I just want to be sure. Thanks again guys.

Ordered the stove from Overstock yesterday evening. I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas now.........even though I won't burn in it until this Fall. I'll at least be able to see it and get my measurements etc. once it's here. Thanks again guys!!

Be sure to get your wood ASAP.. Get it cut, split and stacked off the ground with pallets or other methods with good wind exposure and sun if possible.. Dry wood is the single biggest problem with wood burning results and satisfaction..

I've got about 1/2 cord in my shed now that I was gonna burn in my POS ZC fireplace this winter. I'm in the process of tearing that badboy out now. I've also got almost 2 cords of ash split and stacked on pallets now. I C/S/S the ash last month. Got about another 1/2 cord waiting there where I got that from. Ash seasons quick from what I've read here, so that's what I'm trying to scrounge now to get C/S/S.

A bud of mine also got me in a place where I can cut all the wood I want. Just need to sign a waiver of liability for working on his land. Thanks again!!

Sounds great! Yes ash seasons quickly so you should be all set for next winter..
