Oh yea, by the way I already replaced the green "ON" switch for a constant onoff switch. My finger was sore after half a cord. I figure it's probably better for the motor anyway cause it does'nt have to start and stop all the time.
also it was a little herky jeky the first couple of hours. I sprayed the sliders with wd40 and and wiped it down. It slides alot smoother after running nearly an entire day. I think it just needed a little breaking in.

What's that on/off switch. I've heard about the pain in having to hit the button, while holding a lever, while standing on one leg 
This is a safety function two switches or levers PITA As far as 4 ton spplitter go the roibi wins hands down over the cheap chianese crap. Try this spray the splitting wedge with PAM. Don there is an Building supply outlet store in MA Grossmans

I have the Ryobi as well and noticed that if I really lift the wedge side high when wheeling it around, then plug it in to use it, it will jerk a bit until the fluid settles back down. Try keeping the wedge side as low to the ground as possible when transporting, it will help out.

How much does something like this cost? I have looked at these in the past, but wasn't sure how they work! I love this site!!
$299 plus tax at Home Depot for the Ryobi.
Besides the crotches, I havent come across anything it wont split.

It is nice to hear that these work so well. I will look more seriously at them now. I find it hard to justify buying a log splitter, when I can do it manually. I guess I am just a tight-wad.

I'm with you BikeMedic!! But I look at it this way: I can split with the maul while the fiance runs the electric. And if I get tired out, I can just run the electric. It's cheaper than a gas splitter, and I don't believe I really need 50 bigillion tons of splitting force.
I may pick one up this weekend on the HD 30 day trial plan.....so to speak.

Buying somthing then taking it back is called renting. In wich case Home depot is the worlds largest rental Shop!
You can't buy a sandwich and take it back or a soda for that matter.
Granted, home depot is a large and succesfull company; I guess That gives everyone the right to buy their new equipment with the intention of taking it back used. One could say it's like stealing windows xp. Bill Gates does'nt need my 300 dollars neither does home depot. But last time I checked People work at both companies that have famillies and pay living expenses. If their company does well then they can get regular pay increases to keep up with the cost of living.
Enough of my rants I 'm taking my splitter back.

My neighbor has a NICE TroyBilt that I have borrowed in the past. But the last time I used it it seemed like it took forever, and went back to the MonsterMaul while my dad used the splitter. I split twice as much in the same time. (I did, however, expend ten-times as much energy!!

Don in CT I was in grossmans bargin outlet today they had the Iron horse 6 ton electric splitter in stock $289 10$ less thar the ryobi and 50% more power. It will split up to 20" and 12 " rounds It might be worth a trip to springfield ma

Elk, I know you have a better splitter and don't have to make this decision BUT....
if you had $300 to spend and had to live with the splitter you bought for 5 years would you buy the 6 ton Iron Horse or the 4 ton Ryobi??
Reading your past posts it sounds like the Ryobi may be built better but the the 6 ton verses 4 ton makes for a true difference in real world use.
Any thoughts?

Elk, I got my splitter for $150 from a classifides. That is a pretty good deal, and if I didn't have mine, I would probably get it.

Every now and then Grossman's run a store wide 15% off sale pricing. The Iron horse 6 ton splitter around $245. That $50 and more 50% more power, the scales definitely tilt in favor of the Iron Horse splitter

Tool King.com has this Ryobi Splitter as their daily deal today for $ 259.44. It is a factory recondition one, but has the same warranty as a new one. I ordered one and it shipped today. Will give it a good work out next week when I receive it.

Yes. The shipping charge was $ 7.99 on the invoice. Unless there is some very fine print that I did not see. The charge to my credit card is a total of $ 268.43.
