Just got a bunch of Green Supremes from Lowes and I can't believe how much different than the ones I've been burning all winter. They're twice as light (color) and they have a sweet smell. I stuck my face in front of the blower and they smell sweet. The old ones I never noticed any smell. And I do believe they are burning cleaner as well. What a difference. Now why couldn't they make these at the BEGINNING of the burn season? Or why not all the time??

Said the same thing total 5-tons
1st 2-tons burned were ok, that i purchased in the fall.
But when i broke into the 3rd ton color was lighter & burned cleaner and hotter.

You shouldn't be smelling anything from the pellets from the convection blower. Did you stick your face in front of the vent termination?

The smell is very weak and its from the front of the stove where the heated air is blown. Its not strong enough to fill the room. I just notice it when I'm close to the stove. I don't notice it at all when I'm sitting 8 ft away. I wonder if it is from that very small space around the tube scrapper. I have had the stove roaring the last 24hrs because its been in the teens. When the flame is high I can see the light from it around the tube scrapper so I know there is a small open area there.

Smell the roses, I guess all pellets are not created equal, glad you like them my gteams have been good all year long, bought em from Lowes last August.

Im not very familiar with your stove but is the firebox under positive pressure during normal operation?

It's a XXV, had a P-61 years ago they operate similar, but I do not have any smell unless you go outside.

You know, I don't have a clue. The John Deere stove is for all intents and purposes a St. Croix Prescott EXP. They're both manufactured by the same company, look the same, same manual etc.

I can smell pellets only when the hopper is open and I am pouring them in. I have the odor of fresh lumber when I get a new delivery of pellets into the garage. The bayous have the odor of old aspirin. Only about 6 bags of them left. Then to open the last ton of Energex. I should be able to burn those up by summer. Looks more and more like I'll only be having nighttime fires on what sunny days we get.
