A guy I work with said when he was growing up his dad split with a maul having a cam action deal on each side. As the maul went in, apparently a cam rolled out on each side forcing the log apart. Any one heard or swung something like that?

Yes. They are garbage.

First seen them 30 years ago.Had no idea they're still available.Noticed that some older ones are selling for ridiculous prices on Ebay in the past several months. :-/

Isn't it strange how usually on a video they are splitting dead or half dead wood.... Sort of reminds me of the day at TSC when they were demoing the splitters.....using punky wood.

Thanks for the video. The next youtube video that pops up shows a close-up of the axe and how it works. Don’t think I want something with moving parts and springs. At any rate, I’m pretty happy with the Fiskars I have. It works better than my grandfather’s axe but either one are fun to use and a good work out, especially after a high stress day at work…… I call it my backyard YMCA.

Splitting Maul: If it doesn't run on gas, diesel, or electricity, it doesn't need moving parts (other than the operator).

I have a Chopper1. Got it for free from an older gent who passed away, looked gimmicky so I never would have bought it but I figured I'd try it out. That was 5 years ago, I've used nothing else since. It works great.

I've got a double bit axe head with the little levers. I haven't hung it yet so I don't know how effective it is.

Give us a report after you have a way to swing the thing. By the way: nice stove and saw you have there.
