Feeling the Heat

Hello all,
Coming to a close of my first "Full" heating season with my EB-150. No storage yet. Been burning non-stop from 1st week in October and will shut down probably end of March or so. When all is said and done I'll have used 8 cord of not so seasoned wood. I figure once I get ahead with the wood I should be down to about 6 cord for the same time frame. Sound about right?
Either way, I went from 1000 gallons of oil per year to 300 in two years. 1700* $3.50= $5940.00 savings. Got my EB-150 for $5500 so it has paid itself off in 2 years, not counting accessories for install. That will take another 1/3 of a season or so.

Also, anyone ever hear of putting some rock salt in the fire chamber to turn the creosote to dust? Not on a regular basis but on occasion to clean the fire chamber walls. I'm told it won't bother the steel but what about the refractory? Anyone ever hear of such a thing?

It has been posted here before that the smooth creosote actually protects the steel.

Agree with GG, and I would keep an eye out for condensation in the fire box.

someone said potato pells in bottom chamber help dry things out if you have creasote in your tubes. the stuff in the top chamber shouldn't hurt anything.

Sorry Everyone. I'm not looking to add rock salt. A friend of mine has an outdoor boiler and he asked me if I ever heard of it being used. I haven't but I'm pretty new at this. Just curious if anyone ever had heard of it.

On my Eb 150 about once a month my turbs will get sticky when i go to use the cleaning lever. This only happens on a warm day when it;s idling. When this happens I put 3 medium spuds (not just peels) in the lower chamber, directly under the gasification nozzle. (Obviously not when it's running) After it's been fired for a 1/2 day--no sticky turbs. I believe there isn't any known chemical or physical explanation for this. it's just magic. : > )

I would be afraid of using rock salt. Look at what it does to concrete sidewalks.
