Feeling the Heat

Western ME
I really just wanted to post on the new "fancy pants" look to "our" new meeting room, but I think that the heating season is done, at least around here. I've only used a little over half of what I had expected to use. My wood is much better (dryer) than last year, quess I'll have to wait for a more "normal" winter to see and measure the diff of the drier wood. How'd your piles make it thru this year?

Still have 2 cord left unused, gives us a good head start for next winter. Very mild this winter indeed.

Same here. I called it quits on Tuesday. I used much less wood than I expected. Overall a good season.

I am at about 6 cord, or 18 north country yankee face cord. Not bad for my size house, garage, and DHW being heated as well. I am glad we had a mild winter. I think I would have went through 9 cord if it had been cold. I will keep burning short fires once or twice a day to keep the temp of the storage tank up for the little heat demand and heating my DHW. No need to start using oil now. ;)

I have to agree about the heating season, nice to have a jump on next year's wood supply. I am down to one fire every or every other day with the o2 garn, about 80lbs/load,will probably burn all summer for dwh. No oil here!

About 2.5 cords left in the shed. Was out of town this week and the Mrs. used oil twice/day just to keep the DHW hot. They say we will be pushing upper 70's for a few days....weird! We have had the odd warm spell this time of year before but nothing that has been sustained this long!

I'm burning a little over half a load every 3 days for DHW. I will burn all summer to help keep the electric
bill down. AC is enough money without adding hot water to the bill. That is one advantage to not having the boiler in
the house.

Im not going to say the season is over yet... There is still enough March and all of April left that I still think we will need a few more fires.

Hey Clarkbug. You got that right. I am told they are calling for some cooler weather next weekend where I live. But between now and then it will be nice and warm. Cool avatar you got there man. I need to look for one some day.

I've used a little over four cords since the 2nd week of Dec. There is still a lot of tweeking to do. My system isnt very automated yet. Also I think I have too much draft and the wood is burning faster than it should.

It's mid March..........I'm sayin' it's too early to say yet. This has been a winterless winter for sure. One to remember.

If things remain in this pattern it makes me wonder what July is going to be like..

maybee july is when we will need the wood?
LOL would't doubt it. I just stole the can of gas for the splitter and dumped it in the Harley for a spin. They say close to 80 here on Wed/Thur, ??? Prolly snow the following week.

First day of spring on Northern Vancouver Island! Close to the water with the dampness our heating season is not so well defined even in July and August it can get down to 5 degrees Celsius at night , so thanks to the benefits of heat storage we run our system year round .

It must be over..the tick outbreak here is hellish!!
The last 10-12 days they are literally coming out of the woods.

Black flies are next!!

About 4 -4 1/2 cords for the year, and about 27 gallons of LP in the same span.

Working on 2014 stack , but 2013 stash just got fatter(1.5 cord left)...

I pulled the plug on mine yesterday. Hadn't needed the heat for several days but I let it keep burning for the hot water. When I got home yesterday the fire had finally gone out. Very early, even for here. Usually keep it going til late April or early May. I'll likely just light the indoor stove if we get a cold snap.

March was pretty mild here in NENY and I don't have my system tweeked yet I just got my first burn on the 26th of Feb and as of today I took the last (50th) bag of pellets from the 1st ton to the celler in case it starts to cool off as predicted. Without the reflective insulation on the radiant, I'm mostly heating the cellar which is at about 75 when there's a call for heat. Still burned less than 2 bags a day on average to date and that includes DHW. I'll burn all summer just for DHW and no fossil or electric(more fossil).

Im thinking based on the forecast Im going to fire back up tomorrow night. Not looking forward to having to heat the storage back up, but it is what it is.

I agree. Thirties forecasted in the evenings next week here.

Ya'lls crazy!! It's March! I will bet 6" of snow yet. Hope not the cherry tree is in blossum. I started one up an hour ago after 9 days without a fire. Me and the brother inlaw were talking on the cabin porch last Friday. He said " Ya know Steve, 16 years ago this day we were up here snowmobiling. It was 28 below zero . Today it was 76 degrees. As we listened to the timber wolves in the distance we though it's still gunna snow ya know. Hope not. We are too far into spring. Stee6043, ya know you're gunna fire it up one more time!!

The USWB forecast a high of 32F tomorrow with snow, blustery and 11F Monday night, 40F on Tuesday and 18F Tuesday night in northern NY. Don't think I could stand that spell with the boiler off.

See what happens when you say winter is over?

Supposed to get down to 16 tonight. The Varm is roaring away downstairs again. I dont think the spring peepers are very happy with this turn of events.
