I'm hoping I'm not the only one who has been stupid enough to do this....

Last night I was filling up the stove and the pellet bag hit the glass, and then melted onto the glass. I manager to get most of it off but there is still plastic (from the bag) plastered to the outside glass. I've tried a razor and water and can't get it all off the glass.

Does anyone have suggestions. I assume I can't use Goo Gone because it is flamable.

BTDT on the metal side of my stove. Maybe try WD40? It takes off tape ans sticker residue very well, it might take care of this as well. Yes it is flammable but iyou can clean that off later.

edit: Not sure if there is a coating on the glass that the wd40 would damage? I assume it is on the outside and not inside?

Let the stove cool to room temp.
!!ONCE COOL!!
Mist soapy water on the area. Or use alcohol.
Use a single edge razor blade to scrape the glass.
(Important to use a lubricant to prevent glass from being scratched)

Once the gunk is scraped off use ceramic glass cleaner to polish the glass
I use this one from RUTLAND
http://www.northlineexpress.com/ite...ID=974942917&gclid=CMLgsM_97a4CFUZN4AodQk1IJA

Or you could polish the glass with a damp paper towel and some stove ashes.
It works really well.

Good Luck,

I thought that to be a given. My Bad. Nice catch nailer. Be carefull with the razor blade.

The Rutland cleaner works great. I bought a bottle 2 years ago, use it all the time and still have some left. You dont need alot. Mine is for stoves, but its most likely the same stuff in a different bottle.

Try Goo Gone. any hardware store will have this. Wait until the glass is cool and apply with a rag, it will come right off. my wife melted a bag on the glass a few weeks ago.

Ya, it's on the outside. I will give this a shot... Thanks for the help.

She is doing a nice job holding that hat up. Seems to like to lay on wood, or is that a rock?
looks like a log....somewhere tropical based on the brevity of the swimsuit....looks to me like she just finished cooking me dinner, is enjoying watching me eat it, while she relaxes prior to finishing doing the dishes...pretty sure a backrub is in my future too after that dinner...I think thats why she has such an intelligent pensive look on her face.....

No suggestions on taking the plastic off the glass but it looks like you got that covered by the responses. I do suggest filling a 5 gallon bucket or something like that to use to fill your stove. I filled the stove directly from a bag once and that was enough for me...kind of awkward.

I did that a few months ago. With the stove and glass still hot, I took paper towel to it. The plastic started to roll up and stuck to the paper. A little rubbing pressure and frequent changing of the towel, (one swipe) I was able to get it all of the glass and the nickle trim. Polish it up with paper towel and stove ash.

I was stupid enough to burn my Knee on the glass!
That freaking hurt!

I have had this little boo boo happen a couple times over the years.
Same old process works for me that I have used to clean the black crud off the inside.

A WET SOS PAD. Not dripping, but wet.
These little critters will take that plastic right off.

Now if you get the plastic stuck to the "plated trim pieces" it can be a tad more of an issue without messing up the finish on the trim, but the glass is an easy trick with the SOS

Good luck, OH don't beat yourself up too much over the plastic on the glass thing, its not the first time thats ever happened, nor the last.

Good luck

I think I might know someone who did this. I heard that if you wait till the glass is cool, it scrapes right off with a razor scraper. Guys talk. You hear things.

Yes, she does fill the stove once in awhile, but I usually try to stop her because she always ends up breaking something.

Wife ~ 5, Pellet stove 0

Things she's messed up on the stove:
  • Aforementioned melted pellet bag.
  • Bent hopper lid. No idea how that happened, wisely decided not to ask.
  • Bent damper rod ~ see above.
  • Put a wax candle on the stove. I admit, I did lose my temper on this one. Took me forever to clean up.
  • Dropped a full 40 lbs bag of pellets on the living room floor. I'm still finding them to this day. Why she didn't use the 4 full coal hods I have is a mystery.
No offense to the women on this forum, but my wife is like Godzilla when it comes to that stove. Nothing but a trail of carnage.

be careful what you wish for, Lousyweather!

md2002, how'd you make out?

Does skin remove easier than plastic? :p

After the burn scabs over, the scab removes painfully easy!
Or did you mean does the skin remove from the body easier than the plastic from the pellets?
Either way, I have no way to compare skin and plastic YET! Given time and the stupidity that I posses, I may be able to answer this question eventually...
