Recently have been hearing a ticking sound in the stove that occurs on a very consistent one beat per second rhythm. No noticeable affect other than the sound. It's not happening during the self-cleaning phase... pretty sure it's happening during the regular burn. Which motor would this involve, and what would be the recommended service? I'm pretty good about shop-vac-ing the parts accessible during normal cleanup (what I can reach via the front door, including heat exchanger). I installed this thing in the Fall and it's been working like a champ. I'm about to open up the sides and see what I can see, but I'm not sure what to do past that. Any help?

I'd check the auger first. You can remove it easily from the right side.

A one per second "beat" is pretty fast....way too fast to be an auger. My guess is the convection blower fan might be off balance slightly, or out of alignment and is just nicking the housing. Have you had it apart recently for cleaning?

If not, check the same situation on the comb. blower.

Is it only noticeable when it is burning on low? If so get use to it and there isn't a fix for it either.

Auger ticking is a fairly common complaint.

Nothing can be done to fix it. Quad is aware of the problem, but I don't think they will do anything about it since its been known from 2006 and on.

While the noise is happening lift the hopper lid and see if it quits. Then you know it's the auger.

You can also try bumping the flame height up a cuople notches and see if that helps.

I'm almost certain it's probably the auger motor.I have the same noise when the stove is on low.I've had a new auger motor installed, and it still does it,but when I raise the flame height it's not as noticeable.

I had the same problem with my stove. First, the dealer came out and replaced the auger motor under warrenty, but the ticking continued. The factory is well aware of the problem. Apparently it is the low voltage relay on the auger motor. I was told to turn up the flame height 2 points over whatever setting I was using. The noise went away immediatly.
The factory rep told me that unfortunatly they purchased a large quantity of these auger motors from china and they must use them up before they can put a permanent fix in place.

I'm running mine on low right now, with flame height at 0 and there's no ticking sound.

Why burn on low or even medium low? I burn on Medium High or High all the time, on manual, just set the temp a little higher let it go. Much cleaner burn and no ticking.
It does start and stop a little more when it is warmer outside but then I just set the temp diff. to max. so it does no start as often.

Because we'd get roasted out of the house running on hi.
Only run auto and let it idle, way better fuel consumption.

Only get roasted out when it is 45 or so out and it gets to 76 or so in the house.
Most of the winter when it is cold out it runs and never gets to the temp I am calling for.
Problem besides ticking when I burn on low or medium low I get a very dirty burn but that is I guess
another issue for another post.

My glass gets assed up pretty fast, just can't justify burning more fuel for clean glass.
My house is fairly new and insulated fairly well, low gets the job done 95% of the time.
