Can anyone ID this wood ?? I don't believe it is a particularly great wood to burn, but I thought it was worth trying since it's relatively rare.

Looks like a cross between a conifer and cycad - looking forward to learning the id of that tree! Cheers!

Did you see any coconuts on the ground nearby?

Negative. There's are people in the pacific northwest who try to plant palm trees and the like, but they do not grow well at all here... won't be seeing any coconuts in my neck of the woods.

Still waiting to see who gets it... I searched these forums and found just 1 reference to it in the past. I was hoping someone here has burned it, it's going in my 2013/14 stack and I'm hoping it'll season by then.
Hint: It's not native to this continent, but it does seem to grow quite well in the pacific northwest among other places

If you give up I'll tell you... but first I'll wait a bit and see if one of the WA or OR members will take a look here and clear things up..

Looks like a monkey tree to me. What did I win? ;)

It looks like something that Dinosaurs would have seen.

That's cool - new one for me - thanks for posting! Cheers!

Thats neat! Of course you know that this means you have to give us a full report when you burn this wood in a year or so! I want to know about the BTU's, how long it burns, what the smoke smells like, yada yada yada......lol!

Will do! It's going in my 13/14 pile... but maybe I'll chuck a piece in towards the end of next season and see what happens
