I just called Hamshaw lumber in Keene were I get my Okanagans from. During last years spring sale they were $240 a ton. This they are $279 a ton. The gentleman that I talked to on the phone said that the manufacturer is not discounting the prices for spring sales. Plus the higher cost of transporting the pellets leads to higher prices.

I just received the early buy info from the supplier I was considering buying from again and the prices are all $20-$30 more than they were in the middle of winter. Oh well, its still far cheaper than the dino fuel I've burnt for the last decade or so!

Oh yes. I'm planning on purchasing 6 tons within the next week or so (gotta keep that pig status!). Even at $280 a ton, I will be spending about 50% less over oil which is now around $3.80/gallon in my area.

Around here the best deals have been in August/September for some reason.....maybe more competition between home dep, lowes, TC, and country max at that time.

Pretty sure they will sell them. But way too rich for my blood. I saved 2 tons of hot pellets with the mild winter we had. I can get by with a ton or so of shoulders for next season. So I can ride this one out. Plus a few of them bargain brands have enough heat for what I need. I still have a very hard time paying more than $250/ton for pellets. But still much cheaper than electric/oil or propain! Worst comes to worst, I'll be using pellets for a backup for my wood eater. But luckily there are a few under $200 deals floating around.

For that kinda coin they can keep 'em. Mid 250's is my comfort zone if it ain't on sale. On sale is better, I'd rather burn more (quantity) of a shoulder type than pay that price and justify it for them. Pound sand I say. RT

I was also told that this price "may" be good through April, then the price is likely to jump to over $300/ton. I'm sure I can find something a lot cheaper to burn then that and will still give plenty enough heat to keep the house warm.

I also thought that I saw some threads in regards to Okanagans now being bulk shipped to a plant in MA were they were being bagged. I guess this has no effect on pricing so far.

Got a flier saying the same thing. The price is the same as when I bought them back in February... LeCretes are a bit cheaper than Oakies and I prefer the LeCretes so I'm going with those this year. The price for delivery did go up by $5 too. Pellet Direct is in my area and have some pretty good prices but I need them delivered and they charge $60.00 delivery. I can't swallow that pill.... especially since I'm only about 15 miles away.

Ouch! too much for me. At that price point, there will be a new kid on the block with some competition. Will work until the big guy buys out the littel guy. Hum, didn't that already occure?????
I think you will find a lot of new stove owners who's may have a lot of buying power for both stoves and pellets. Lucky for those of us in this area, we have some decent alturnatives.

I'm not seeing much for price breaks on any of the "ultimate" brands. So you pigs won't see me in the high dollar line this season, I'll be in the bargain bin looking at the frugal brands. I'm only seeing about a ten dollar price break on Hamers, Barefoots and such. Most are over $280/ton in my area. I'll be looking for the sub $200 stuff. And hoping for another round of box store wars come fall!

Yes Okies are bagged in Upton Ma. for the entire New England area. I was told it reduced the cost some, But the lastest fuel spike erased all of that plus some.

Here we are burning pellets to get away from oil and it bites us in the keaster anyway.

$300 a ton? ROFLMAO Bubye I already don't want to spend at 285 I'll go find something else to mix with...plenty of fish in the sea...

I call UTTER BS on the transportation costs. Before they were moving pallets now they're moving bulk product to the silo in the next town over from me...Go ahead tell me it's cheaper to send pallets vs bulk rail cars.

FWIW I predicted this last year when I heard about the new bagging plant and the new "super premium vs premium" pellets.

This could be a repeat of the 2009-10 (or was it 08-09 ?) season when pellet producers jacked their prices out of sight based on a the run up in oil only to see oil prices collapse leaving the pellet makers with tons and tons of unsold bags sitting in their warehouse lots. I know that year that I burned under 10 bags using my oil furnace instead.
Last weekend, I bought leftover Dry Creek at @ $235 at my dealer. He said that Lignetics were locked in at last years prices but the unknown added costs will be the transportation and expected a ton would be around $275.

given the cost these days, you'd be lucky to find any FOR sale in the mid-250's (they COST more than that).....so, if ya see them at that price, my suggestion would be to scoop them up, as that price would be below any sale prices...

Sure there are, But if your talking stuff besides wood base products? The end result usually means higher ash content. So you'll end the day cleaning more often. Hard to beat wood fiber for pellet fuel.

I know where you can get a whole load of inferno's real cheap! !!

My dilemma is that I want to get next winters stash all at once. 6 tons minimum. I don't have truck, so I would prefer to have it delivered. Considering this, I have the following (known) options in pellets that can be delivered:
Cleanfire Pacifics ($285) (woodpellets.com)
Okies ($279)
Granuals ($275) (woodpellets.com)
Northerns ($275)
Bearfoots (??)
Cleanfire Hardwood ($255) (woodpellets.com)
NEWP ($225)

I don't really want to go with 6 tons of NEWP. They are a decent pellet, but they really gunk up my stove. The Pacifics are out of the question at $285 + $65 for delivery. I'm thinking the Cleanfire Hardwood is the way to go. I have heard good things about them on the forum but have not put any through my stove so I would be taking a chance. The difference between 6 tons of Cleanfire Hardwood and 6 tons of Okies is $144 - $43 difference in delivery charge gives a $101 difference. I'm thinking that it is safer to go with the pellet that I now know very well for an extra $101 rather then take a chance on something that I have never used before.

Just an FYI, I'm pretty sure that CleanFire Hardwoods are NEWP rebagged for woodpellets.com.

Well, that is some excellent information to have. I guess I'm going to just bight the bullet and get the 6 tons of Okanagans.

No bargains on the Barefoots either. I bit the bullet and got 6 tons @ $279.
