Finally got all the trees I wanted cut down in my backyard and rented a stump grinder for the weekend.
25 stumps in 2 days. 3 of them were HUGE over 4 feet wide. All cherry.

Looks like you have a good supply of mulch.

Impressive, that machine got a dam good workout! I'm sure you did, too!

Nice job BigV, will you be making use of the mulch around the house?

25 big stumps in 2 days is some work. Glad you could rent and do it yourself. Beats hiring it done for sure.

And here I am dreading mowing the yard. ;em

Good job!

Nice work for sure. I used the mulch from 1 Silver Maple stump (~30") all last year. Those chips would last you a long time if you could keep them from rotting.
Can you use them for smoking or is there oil mixed in from the grinding?

That is a monster grinder. I rented one a few tears ago that was much smaller and required much more work on my part too. What did that thing cost to rent?

It was a pull behind. The self propelled were smaller and grind much slower. It cost $190 a day. I rented it on Saturday and since they (the rental Co.) were closed Sunday I had it for 2 days. The hour meter stopped working after 2 hours and when I took it back I was honest and told them I used it for at least 12 hours. Then they charged me for 2 days.... I should have kept my mouth shut. Sometimes honesty doesn't pay!

And you thought when you cut up the trees you had a mess to clean up. WOW! you made a pile of woodchips.
Good demo of renting a stump grinder!
Is it a good way to go?
Were you able to follow the big roots & get them also?
I have a few that need removed, I'll look into the stump grinders, maybe they have rentals.
Good post.
