What these things, this is the only one I have ever seen with thorns, most of the Locust around here is Black Locust, and only has a few small thorns on the branches. I don't believe I would like Locust so much if it all had these on them.

What ya got there is honey locust. Some BTU charts put this stuff ahead of black locust. I have around 7 cord of honey locust and 4 cord of black locust for next winter. I have 4 huge honey locusts to cut down this summer, too. The thorns are incredible on the honey locust. I buried a big one in my thigh last summer, and believe me it hurt like hell..

its worthless! Send it all to my house and i will burn it to keep you from having to mess with it.

My experience with locust has been great. It burns very long and coals forever. I do notice that if I have a full load of just locust I may have to give it more air. Also it smells terrible when you burn it.

One thing I've found that may be helpful is it splits easier when I let the rounds sit for a while. So if I was going to spend time processing wood I'd be well pleased if I were processing locust.

Propane is my Monday-Friday, and shoulder season heat, so I really don't get through much wood in a year, hopefully even less with my new insert. My 1-acre mature wooded lot is likely to keep me supplied with all the wood I'll need for many more years. I'll probably bring a trunk-full of locust home with me the next time I visit, just so I'll know what I'm missing.

Just to make you all sick, it's already cut into rounds, 20 yards from his driveway.
