Looks like you've done lots of work Tigg. Good for you. Now to get all those rounds split. As you know, the wood won't dry until it has been split and you have some beautiful white oak there. Wish we had some like that.

Excellent pics. Thank you for posting them.
You've got some splitting in your future. Do you rent / borrow a splitter, or just "whack the sucker"?
How will you dispose of your sawdust pile? Burn it, or remove it? Or is it now compost?

Personally, I remove loose bark when I can, because it keeps a wet layer up against the wood.
Every time I pop a piece of bark off, I can see the dampness against the wood.
And I usually see a few little critters in that moiste gap, too.
If I don't land fill my bark, I jam it in big card board boxes. They are perfect for starting a camp fire.
I just set the whole box, dried after being stored under cover, in the fire pit and light the cardboard.

The only time I mess with bark is if it falls off when getting split. Otherwise the bark stays on and we've never had a problem with wet or bugs betwixt the bark and wood. But then, we leave the wood in the stack for a few years before burning it too.

Thanks for the kind owrds guys, I appreciate it.
I guess you can say I've been busy, hah. I'm tired and my back is killing me.

The wood fence will be moved soon. They seem to be attracting all the wrong bugs, when sitting on our patio we get swarmed by wasps and wood bees. My little girl and myself are not too fond of wasps.

I'm working on splitting them, just trying to figure out how to do it. I dont have a splitter, my neighbor said he would get one for me, all I have to do is pay for gas. Its his friends. He just started construction on his house so that ma be a while. Until then, I'm going to make a wedge and I just sharpened my axes, so, I'll start spliiting them :)

Mastermech,
that little guy was working. I dont mind the top handle, I sure do miss my big boy. I had a 50+cc stihl I had recently sold not expecting to buy a house so soon. Bought the little fella because we had tons of 4 to 8" branches hanging over our new house. Was not expecting to be a burner, well, havent yet.

Maple,
I sure do. I split what I can by hand. I will be borrowing a splitter. If my nieghbor can grab it for me. I have noticed the moisture under the bark to as well as the little critters. Thats a great idea for the bark. I hope you dont mind if I use your idea.

Backwoods,
Do you happen to have a pics of your stacks? For some reason, we have a lot of bugs. They all seem to gather under the bark. Though I do think they will diminish once split.

What are some of your methods to splitting manually? I have looked at some manual jack style splitters. Are they worth it?
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hey Ray, wast that meant to be nice or nasty?! ;)

That third picture is a close up so you can see what is under the stacks. Sorry but this year's wood is still in need of more stacking but these pictures should do the trick. Not sure why that picture I posted earlier got deleted. I'm not using Photo Bucket any longer because this sort of thing keeps happening.
