Feeling the Heat

Just when I thought my wood processing was finished until the fall, I get a call from a friend. They have 'some cut-offs' the land owner wants them to clean up and get rid of. So I tell him to drop them by the shed. 2 tandem dump loads on the ground, one more on the way. I honestly wasnt planning on this much work!!

Oh wow. Just keep thinking about how warm you will be next winter, and how you WON'T have to work so hard next year to lay in the following season's wood because you already have it. Yeah, I know that ain't gonna happen, but just saying...::-)

Nice! Looks like you have the room for it.

Let it set til fall.....;)

Make hay when the sun shines. ==c
What kind of wood?

I could let it sit there till fall, but I doubt I will, it will nag me until I get it C/S/S. It will be '14-'15 fuel. Its a mix of hardwoods, mostly. W&R oak, maple, hickory, ash, cherry and one stick of poplar, that I can see so far.

Fire broad when you load up that T5 how long do you get useful heat?

I thought I was done, too. I ran into my neighbor the other day. He asked me if I wanted to cut up a dead ash that blew over this winter. It was straight across the road from my house. I was a little concerned about metal, since it was in a fencerow, but it was clean. There are two more standing there where it was. He said I'm welcome to cut them before they fall in his field. Nice, tall, straight trees, 20-24" DBH. Oh well, what's another cord?

It was delivered & all Free..
You were afraid of with draws eh? :) LOL

i'm kicking myself....
I have 3 full cords to split and stack and then here come the tree service guy; "I got a dump truck of locust, u want it?"
Me: hell yeah, dump it in the back
him: oh, I cant dump there, that other pile is in the way, too high!!!
me: Dooooohhhhh!

I got the same thing here. I was making good progress toward on the splitting when my good friend needed help with 65 acres that had been timbered. Wood everywhere. I have mostly been helping him get way ahead and we're stacking a big pile of logs to cut and split as we can. I did bring home 2 loads of white and red oak as I just could not resist. It will be a good addition to the pile. If it is dry this weekend we'll work on hauling some to an old gentlemen from church. Gonna be busier than a one arm paper hanger for awhile as I had already promised a few honey do's before I started in to this adventure........a little painting started tonight......Momma ain't happy ain't nobody happy.

@RAY that's a great "problem" to have. BTW I got a kick out of your avatar.

With good wood and a full load I can get 6-8 hours. If you mean by "useful", heat that is hot enough to keep the thermostatically controlled fan going, I would say 4-6 hours.

Same deal here - with a full 3 winters' worth C/S/S and ready, thought I could spend time on other stuff needing done. But a fellow is having a 30" r.oak taken down and another guy a larger maple. I just can't say no.
I got the jones too :(

Cool Ray ya can't beat that!

Yes, I am not complaining, but was kinda looking forward to a break. ;em
@ JeffersonCoKs, hehe, I used to be a very avid waterfowler, but the boys came along and I choose to switch things up to something they could tag along with and enjoy. Now that they are older and can be around and be safe and have fun and enjoy it with me, I have started back up again. It's alot of fun!

Once you start collecting wood, it certainly seems to never stop - there's always some wood to get! Cheers!
