Just loaded up and aired down.. looks like fires for a couple more nights.. :)

I shut mine down for the season. A few nights ago I started a fire in a cold stove. It was coolish outside, around 40* and for the first time since I've had the stove it started to backdraft.
Not worth fussing with the stove at this point when $0.10 of natural gas is enough to heat the house for the night.

Gonna bring in a little more wood today before the rain. Looks like 30s at night for the next few nights.

I had one going last night and the stove is still warm this morning. It is 47 here and a high of 60 today. I have been doing small fires about every other night, with silver maple, for the past week. I really enjoy the quick heat from the silver maple plus it has been great for the early spring smoking/cooking.

We have been burning for the last couple of days mostly soft maple because it's been pretty chilly here. This morning was in the upper 20's when I checked our outdoor thermometer. The jotul will be missed over the summer !

We had our first 70 yesterday! More today. I love it and so do the gardens.

I held off last night but fired it up this morning. Temps were mid fifties outside here this morning, but gusty winds made it feel cooler. I burned some nice dry cherry split thin to start, and then followed up with some hedge and elm. My Oburn 2400 throws tons of great heat, and although I am still figuring it out I've decided I am really happy with it. All of that said, I am envious of the control I read about from the BK folks on here.

So we are supposed to get up to a foot of snow through tommrow- nothing strange for our area of WV
WIll burn some of the locust I still have in basement
We generally don't stop burning until late May anyway
That's what's great about the Keystone and soapstone can just keep it cruising with small loads and keeps the house at a constant 72 or so

I save my locust for when the thermometer hits the single digits to low teens. We will be burning a mix of red oak and silver maple for the next week or so......

I returned to the house earlier today from cutting to find the wife had started a fire...after letting the stove go cold for about 10 days or so. Hovering around 50 here not real cold, but the willow fire feels real comfortable. Burned a ton of that this year since most of the winter was a shoulder season for us.

Good luck with all that snow...I hope the leaves haven't opened completely down there or there will be some power outages to deal with.

You must be at a high elevation, the mountains of Penn and NY are expecting 12-18, Im on the wrong side or maybe the right side of the storm depending on your point of view.

I tried to use up all of the wood in the garage and basement entry during the past few weeks. After seeing freezing temperatures coming, I moved more wood in. I heated up the living room stove after church. I'm wearing a t-shirt and shorts (no windows open) but my wife and daughters are happy.

I saw that forecast and the pattern where they expect the snow seemed odd. I thought it would go more from SW to NE. However, I am very happy it missed us. We sure have a cold wind and it is expected to be windy the next few days. Yes, we're building a fire every now and then. I'm about to start another one now.

Yea just the locust in the basement as I want to get it out-only a couple loads. I still have about 3 cords of locust still outside.
W e are at 3200 feet and not that unusual to have snow until mid May and sometimes some deep stuff. We still don't have a lot of leaves yet on the trees up here so we should be okay
Down lower could be a problem

I have amassed a nice amount of locust thus far. have over a cord of locust split and stacked about maybe half still requiring splitting. I have noticed that Locust and Maple play very well in our stove. I may have to resplit some of the locust we have since i got a few truck loads of it and got a bit overwhelmed wit the splitting so now that my back is feeling a bit better I will revisit resplitting the bigger splits.

Gonna have to make a trip out to the stacks tonight. When we had 80's a few weeks ago, I was looking at my stash in the garage, thinking I would have to take some back out. Now it's almost gone. Been burning a load every other day. Without striking a match ;)

Last night around 40 is tonight, then it will moderate. These cool temps have been nice for woodworking, though.

You BK guys have no idea:) It's a wonder you don't forget the stove is there;lol

Turkey season opened in Ohio today and my buddy was excited to hunt them in the SNOW. Kinda backwards, we deer hunted in warmer weather than he's turkey hunting in. It'll be in the 70's by the end of the week.

Well, was 54 when I got home last night, but I have been dying to stretch the Jotul's legs after the rebuild so fire away, I said! Good thing as it got down into the 30s last night. Lit her up again tonight and am enjoying the sweet wood heat once again!

Thanks, Chief, for the post like.

We finally stopped burning well after my last post. New England got warm then cool again.
Took the last bit of stash we had outside to replace it on the wood pile, save it for next season.
