This Saturday we finished up a big norway maple that we started two weeks ago. It was a 34" diameter trunk, around 70' high with three top trunks (one with a heavy lean over the house), four power/TV/phone lines running through it, was a major pain in the a$$. We did all the limbs that were intertwined in the power lines two weeks ago, and tackled the big tops this past Saturday. Rigged the tops and pulled them backwards onto the neighboring embankment. Still have a big silver maple in the backyard (6-20" diameter trunks ALL intertwined in the power/phone lines), but we made out really well on this job. Ended up with 6 truckloads like the on in the picture out of the norway. This will be wood for 2016. Yes I'm that far ahead.....

Good job getting that down, I would never have attempted it. BTW drive safe, your rear tire looks a little stressed.

Joey we had way more weight on that 3/4 ton than we should have. That green maple is HEAVY....lol....

Good thing you don't plan to burn that norway next year. I always have a problem bringing norway down to 20 in one year.

Yeah it dries slow as molasses. It does burn good (alot like sugar maple) but takes forever to dry. I'm good right through 2015, this stuff will be for 2016 at the earliest.

Nice job Scotty Overkill, looks like that truck has some squat to it.

Dad's place had a monster (40"+ don't remember exactly) double trunked Norway in the back yard. In 2001 a micro-burst shredded it leaving nothing under 6" attached to the trunk. That canopy stretched over the house roof and covered 1/2 the back yard. Hated raking those leaves almost as much as I despised picking up the walnuts from 3 Black Walnut trees (one of them equally monstrous) along the back fence.

Great job taking it down and I see the Ford got the light-duty chores! ;)

Looks like a professional job.
Still have a roof, no wires broken.
Didn't make the local news.
Lots of BTUs, tree looks solid all the way thru. Gonna make some nice splits.
Great job

bogydave, we may not have made the local news but I'm betting we made YouTube ....there was a small crowd there when we dropped the tops! I like burning the norway maple, but it takes time to dry out good. BTW, you're making nice progress on your restocking your racks. By far one of my favorite woodsheds of all time!

Just got a huge Norway that my neighbor cut down. Buried my 28" bar in the center of the trunk where the branches start. I have seasoned Norway in a year and it burned great. Probably depends on your area.
