Hello,

Would like help / opinions / experiences from any all If you would not mind too fight through this long thread.

some information..

I am stationed here in Fairbanks Alaska. Currently its -43 (not cold yet). I will not be using the fireplace for my main source of heat, unless fuel gets out of control (as if its not already). My house is 2800sq ft give or take. It is a Two story home with normal height ceilings. I will be doing all the demo on the fireplace that is there now and also the finish work. I am looking for efficiency but also looks. The unit will be in the corner.

*I want duct run from the unit to the front door (20ft) to blow the heat when I want, but also want the heat to come out the front of the unit at the same time. I want to be able to turn the front door heat vent off and still have the unit front blower going.

I am in the market for replacing my fireplace with one of the units I’ve been looking into.

Supreme Plus
Delta 2

Would like to know what anyone here has paid for them and also feed back on the two listed. good, bad and suggestions or other options.

I’ve been quoted here in town from two places, one was 12,000+ and the other was 7,000+

both estimates where just for the unit, supply’s, install / labor, with no demo and no refinishing. I will be doing the demo and tile / stone work. I contacted one dealer on the web that was based in Michigan, asked for estimates on both units I listed above, I got it back and was shocked.

*Supreme Plus - everything needed to install it was $6,239.00 (unit price alone with no supply’s 3,499.00)

*Delta 2- everything needed to install was $7,814.00 (unit price alone with no supply’s 3,599.00)

both had the shipping cost $900.00.

Is there a way of cutting out the middle man on buying the fireplace insert ? I think the mark up on these are way out of hand seeing that that I got a bid of 7,000+ to install it with all the pipes. I'm wondering what that guy in Michigan is doing ( doing well I would think). I know this is America and we have free enterprise and that’s why I wont buy the item of the guy in Michigan. I know people need to make money to keep there business going and I don’t mind paying someone, but I also work for a living too and pay bills so I have to keep an eye out.

Constructive help / opinions / experiences please.

Also pictures of jobs before and after and even step by step as I may install this myself.

Thank you.

Don't have experience with the units you mention, but I've sold, installed
and serviced the Heat n Glo Northstar. That has the options you want for
moving heat to different zones while heating the room it's in. It's also
expensive - $4k (+/-) for the unit alone - but it can be self-installed.
Chimney components will add about another $1k, & I believe the heat
take off blowers are in the $200 range, not including duct work...
It's a kick-ass heater with a 2.75 cu. ft. firebox. It's also BIG & weighs
in at about 450 lbs. They're manufactured in Minnesota...
Unfortunately I have don't have access to any pix, as I don't work in
the hearth industry any more...

I know this isn't what you asked (I ggogled what your looking at). You could install a top of the line woodstove, chimney system, and heat your entire house for less money than you are looking at spending. $12,000 is mind blowing.

I've always heard everything in Alaska is much more expensive than in the lower 48 because of its remoteness and expenses associated with shipping there. That might play a factor in the estimates he received.

There are units on the market that have ducted options built in. I would definitely opt for that style rather than cobbling on a ducted scavenger to the heater which is against code.

The RSF Delta 2 has the central blower option which can be zoned as desired. The Supreme is new to me. On specs alone, the blower CFM seem low which makes me wonder how effective it would be with the ducted option. Another fireplace to look at would be the Kozy Z24 and maybe the BIS Tradition. www.chimneysweeponline.com is a BIS dealer that ships to AK. It might be worth an inquiry there.

Thanks for the reply’s, and yes things are more expensive here and a lot of people like to use that as an excuse for over charging the blind public.

I know I will pay little more for things, but I also know that I will not get taken by a guy trying to become and over night millionaire, and then try to justify it on being in Alaska and or having to pay liability insurance. Nothing is free and I understand that, I’m looking for a honest price.

The thing here I see is I have two estimates in state for the same thing being done, and there is a 5,000 dollar difference, and then I have a estimate from an out of state supplier that’s not even going to install it and its close to the price of the install quote I got in state. People wonder why they go out of business.

I seen this product and would like to know any feed back on this, and would like to know are pellet stoves efficient and can it be vented to another spot in the house?

Thank you.

That seems like a ridiculous amount to be spending on something like that. One of the other users suggested something much cheaper and viable that I would look into. I can help with logical decisions just not research because google is my sworn enemy.. :)

Not sure if I am making myself clear or not, I am not good at laying things out on threads … I know these things are going to cost me a lot … and I know some of them can be ducted…. more or less I am wanting to know if anyone of you have heard / have / or installed, or even know people that have them, and know something about the 3 fireplace I have posted, I my be in the wrong place not sure.
I have looked on google with no help so thats why I am here. Do anyone of you do this for a living, install firplaces?

*Delta 2

*Supreme Plus

The Edge 60 is a Zero Clearance insert. If you look up "Mt. Vernon" or Mt. Vernon insert" you can read more. The Edge is a Mt. Vernon with a different chassis.

Best to start a thread in the Pellet Mill asking about the Edge. I dont think anyone has one. But many Mt. Vernon owners. Very high tech pellet burner.

RSF is a respected brand. We have several hearth members with this brand fireplace. I have not read about the Supreme brand. It may be fine, but we haven't seen it a lot.

Use the forum search tool, above left to quickly find many threads on RSF fireplaces. Click on ...For Advanced Search, Click Here ... Then enter RSF Delta as the search keywords, select in Hearth forum, and select All for the time period. That will get you started with several threads on everything from installation to performance.
