In The Woods
If I limb this up, cut it to the length we want this should make a better one piece coffee table top then the one I plan on milling this weekend which would be a two piece.

Just need to roll it over so I'm getting the widest slab 100_5063.JPG100_5064.JPG possible.

What type of wood is it?

The tree in the pic is White Pine.

I would want one over 30". How wide is it?

I never measured it with a tape (will do tonight) but by the stick I put next to it (marked the stick) then up next to my leg for a guess, I would say 27-30 inches is close.

Yes, it should give us a nice grain cutting it that way.

A big white pine centre with a joined walnut border? Just dreaming.

SmokinJ,

Nice table. Look forward to the pictures Zap. A little off topic but got roped into another school project last weekend where we made an outdoor eating area for the teachers.
This is one of the tables we came up with. I provided all the logs and supports but the slab was donated by a local tree service. 12' x ~42" x 3" .

Sorry meant to say, Redwood. It was still pretty wet, but after it dries a bit more, we should be able to finish sanding it and seal it. By the way for a big slab like this, the square pad floor sanders do a really nice job very quickly.

Is that 43 inchs at the small end or large end?

I'm picking up my walnut slabs from the guy who milled them this weekend. If you remember I took the log with all the crotches and had it milled @ 2 3/4" thick for gunstocks and end tables. He said they came out really nice, looking forward to seeing them.

Zap, what's that funny looking little box on the left hand side?

Sav, It's been in that same spot since winter, I usually just use it around the house.

The circumference is 75 which will give us a slab 23.87 inches wide, perfect for the area it's going in.

Nice. Cant wait to start seeing all the stuff you will be making.

How do you keep it from cracking and warping?
