So I was ordering a solid (with removable nose tip) 18" bar for my 555 and my service dealer happened to pull one off the shelf that was a 16" by accident. Honest mistake, no big deal...but when it was out of the box and he he realized this, he mentioned it would be just like it, but 18". This is where the question comes in. I noticed the oiling port on the bar itself is a small little hole at an angle. The 555 came with a laminated 20" bar and the oiling port is a round hole. If you lay the bars on top of each other my original 20" bar and the 16" bar's oiling ports lay right on top of each other.....just a different hole geometry. Is this ok? Just want to make sure the bar gets the appropriate oil.

Ya really won't know till you get the bar and chain on the saw and pull the trigger. Hold the tip of the bar close to the end of a stump and see if it slings an oil line on the stump.

A lot of the newer bars are going with angled oil holes. Stihl has done the same thing on many of theirs. If they line up, run it without worries and you're always checking the oiler before cutting (as in Jag's post) anyways right? ;)

So you finally pulled the trigger on a 555.
Gotta give us a report. I got the 359 2 yrs ago, (debating on changing out the cat muffler)
but now I would go 555 or 562xp now.
The 562 just looks good ;ex
Pictures of your new saw ? :)

I'm betting the dealer wouldn't set you up with a bar not for your saw.
I think Oregon makes the bars for Husqvarna. I know they make their chains.

The "is it slinging oil test" , as mentioned. A good thing to do.

Jags nailed it. Do the "sling" test. Point the bar towards a log or round and hold the throttle.....it'll sling oil at the log if its working right. I do that periodically when I'm cutting to make sure the saw is oiling good.

Yup...I've always done the sling test pretty routinely....good advice. I'll post how it goes and try to post a pic as well. I've upgraded/replaced bars before, but its been long enough that I don't remember if there was a change in the hole. I'll probably post back in a week or so....I should have a handul more tanks of gas through it as well. Stay tuned. I def have some thoughts.

It pretty much depends on the manufacturer if it comes with a round or angle hole. As long as its in the right spot it doesn't really matter. But I kinda prefer the angle hole as it seems easier to clean the hole when you take the bar off.
