So Cent ALASKA
Got it all split up today& a little over 1/2 of it stacked.
Eagle was hunting while I was splitting. Saw it twice flying with a mouse or shrew headed to feed the young one. After I took the camera out, it didn't come back. Maybe tomorrow when I'm finishing stacking.
Snow is melting on the Mts.
Nice view, eagles flying over & a nice stack of birch. Don't get much better than this
Well I need better padding for the milk crate. :)

carpet?

Way to "get 'er done" Dave... I just buzzed up yesterday about a dozen big white birch I had dropped last winter, probably about 3 full cords. Gotta get a splitter now and get that birch and a bunch of oak and maple rounds S/S before it gets too warm. That should bring my total firewood volume to about 26 full cords, or about 4 years worth. Or maybe 6 years worth if we have more winters like the last one !! LOL

That's a loooong stack! Good work.

Beautiful as always Dave. I still have lots of stacking to do but usually don't see eagles. Well, sometimes we do but not often. No mountains here though.

Finished stacking the AM. 2 Eagles, They started sparring in the air. Maybe fighting over the hunting area.
They hooked feet together & both fell to the ground. Grabbed the camera but by then they were in trees.

Ended up with 38.5 linear feet X 4' -3" high, X 17" . Figure it'll dry to 4' high, so about 1.6 cords.
That's .8 cords per trip, wonder how heavy I was loaded? Then add the ATV in the trailer too. Felt heavy when driving home. With the other stack of scrounged wood. 3.4 cords. !/2 way to being done with wood for 14/15.

Nice, Dave.
Most times I see eagles, I don't have the camera with me.;em
We have at least a couple pair within 5 miles.
I thought you'd have less gray hair than me. Guess I was wrong.;lol

Every morning I wonder "Who's that old guy looking at me in the mirror" ? LOL

Eagle came back, hunting from the highest tree in my yard. (Granddaughter's camera is better than mine)
Small dogs, BEWARE!

Nice work Dave and beautiful views as always. (I'm not talking about the gray hair either)

Always like you pics Dave, down here in the lower 48 we put the carpet INSIDE the house.

Heat is more important here. Carpeted fire wood processing & storage area :)
Keeps weeds out, & when wet, it's not muddy. Gotta keep the wood clean.

Wife does get mad when it needs vacuumed though <>

bogydave

i see you have your splitter facing TOWARDS the mountains. stellar view.

I can't wait until next month when I arrive to Alaska for the first time to fish the Kenai. I'm SO looking forward to the beauty and the bounty! You live in heaven!

Somebody else said this before, but I'd never get a thing done with that view, & watching eagles. I'd freeze to death cause the wood never got put up. Good lookin stacks Dave, nice work & pics. A C

Dave, you do a much better job of stacking than I do.

LOL ;lol
When I get as good as you, I'll take a close up picture

I don't get many rounds to split big enough to make square & rectangle ends pieces like you do,
but I got a few & now understand how much more stable the end cross stack are.
Some nice looking splits in the stack.

Incredible views as usual. I really hope you take the time to look at those views every day Dave. Nice stacks man.

Yep every day, & the view is different every time With a spotting scope I can see Dall sheep ;)
Although today the Mt. tops are in the clouds, 70% of rain but none yet.

Dave, the splits you show of the birch are as big or bigger than a lot of our wood so you should be able to split some squares really easy. Just have to keep it in mind when splitting. Sometimes it is easy to let the mind drift and get the stuff split then wonder, "Why didn't I split some squares?"

Most times the big birch are hollow.
With me being able to select the trees I cut, I've get a little picky when I can.
But when I cut the 20" solid throughout one, I almost bit off more than I could chew. (That's the day I rolled the ATV) A log of 5 rounds was to much to drag up & side hill, the front wheels came off the ground & I bailed & the atv was upside down on a stump) I cut the log & now drag smaller logs (3 - 4 round length) when over 12" or so inches diameter.
One of the lessons you should only have to learn once :)
There's one tree there a little bigger yet, but after the roll over, I decided to pass on it. Maybe tackle it another time, when I'm on my "A" game & have a helper.

But yea, after seeing yours & others splits & nice cross stacks, sometimes I think about it while splitting & try to get squares or almost squares for the end "cross stacks" from the medium sized rounds.
My stacks will never be as perfect as yours, but your stacks give me motivation :)
