Hello everyone!!

It has been awhile since I have been on. I don't know if anyone remembers me, but I am the one who could not pull out the feed motor on my pellet stove. Well, after all this time it is finally out. Had to replace the motor and the feed spring. I now have another problem. HELP!!! I can't get the pellets to drop even after following instructions. Anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong???

Thanks, and it's great to be back.

Couldn't even tell you what the feed mech. is like just throwing this back to the top of the forum...

BUT....

Is the feed motor turning?
Is it turning the right direction?
What is your old screen name? I have no idea what your previous posts were.....
Here's what I'm trying to say...... If you couldn't pull out the old motor was it the spring bound up on something? If it was and now the motor doesn't turn it could be the board got smoked.....
Why did you change the motor?.........Was it not turning? If not.. are all doors closed to close the vac switch... The wiring diagram shows a Cap it the feed motor circuit....

Ya see the more info that you throw at the forum the more responses you may get.

There's several quad owners here on "FLUE TUBE" (that's for you BB) :p
I'm sure they may be of more help, I just don't know of the Previous problems....

Post your email or PM me and I have a PDF of the Technical Service Manual I can send to you if it might help for 1200.

Welcome back, what did you use a jack hammer? Did you ever figure out what was stuffed down there?
How are you testing the unit? Is it installed or still in the garage? Describe exactly what IS happening.

The pellets won't drop unless:
a) thermostat terminals are shorted or a thermostat is on them calling for heat
b) the door is tightly sealed and the vacuum switch reads negative pressure in the chamber (switch can *temporarilly* be jumpered to test)
c) the combustion fan is running.
d) power supply fuse is ok
e) auger motor capacitor is OK (might have blown by trying to run it jammed?)

Also, try hitting the red reset button on the control box.

I'd try this without pellets in the hopper first so that you can see if the auger screw is turning at all. If not, does the motor have power? If it does, is it coupled tightly with the auger screw?

Hi BeGreen,
WE actually pulled and pulled on the motor until the feedspring finally broke off on the motor came up. They were old pellets that had crystallized ant they were jam packed in there. We had to scrap them out of the chamber. We have installed the stove and the thermostat is calling for heat. We have a new motor, new feedspring, and the control box is new. I don't remember hearing the fan. I will take a look at it again this weekend and let you know. Thanks for the information.

Wahsega, my E-mail is [email protected] Thanks!!

If the control box is new, make sure the jumpers are set for the 1200i. The blower should come on as soon as the stove thermostat is calling for heat. If not, check the fuse and then short the thermostat terminals temporarily.

Cookie Tech manual is in your email its a big pdf file.

Sorry it's just your coming up with only this post in your profile so I couldn't read about any previous posts :smirk:

Just wanted to let you all know that we haven't had a chance to do anything with the stove yet. My husband said, that the new motor came with different wires on it and has to get into the junction box. How do you get into the junction box? I looked in the manul but I couldn't figure it out.

If you mean contol box, then NO, you do not need to get into the control box. If they have differnt molex connectors then just need to adapt them to work together. What you realy need is someone to come out and fix it right. I would highly recommend that.

I suspect he's referring to page 6 of the service manual. The color of wiring changed from the older models. If the capacitor is bad there is a capacitor jumper made that will avoid the need of opening up the junction box - part number 203-2150.

But considering that the motor and the control box are both new, it would be the last thing I would suspect. Has he confirmed all other systems are ok? Have him check the continuity of snap switch #2. It that circuit is open, the auger won't feed pellets. Same thing goes for the vacuum switch.

Edit: Like MSG says, a service call may save you both a lot of time and unnecessary expense. The tech will have testing equipment and will assert that all safety systems are in good order. Those control boxes are expensive, you don't want to keep replacing them. And once the stove is running, you really want to have the peace of mind that it is set up right.

PS: The junction box is what the control box plugs into.

Hi there.. Thank you all for all the info. My husband stayed home today and has informed me that a snap disk isn't working. We have one on order now just have to wait for it to arrive. I hope that's it. I will keep you informed.

As for the service call, I can't agree with you more and believe me I suggested it but.................... and that's all I am saying..

Cookie, I'm glad I came upon your thread...I'm actually just getting ready to (attempt) removal of my feed mechanism in my 1200. Mine is working, but it makes a nasty little noisy whenever it turns. I'm thinking that pulling the feed motor/auger and cleaning it will probably quite it down a lot. Anyway, I definitly don't want to hijack your thread, but figured I'd ask...Any tips on removal of the feed mechanism? I've disassembled to the top cover inside the hopper and can see the top of the fee motor. Does it just pull out from there (once you remove the nuts)? Anything to watch out for?

Again, not trying to pull your thread away from ya...just seemed like too perfect a chance to ask the question. :)

Hey MountainStoveGuy,

Thanks for the advise.

Petey305,

Yes, it should just come right out. I wish mine would have come out that easy at the time. Anyway, Wahsega sent me a PDF of the Service Manual. I'm sure he wouldn't mind sending it to you if you don't have a manual. (Right Wahsega? You wouldn't mind? Would you? ) Good Luck.

I just love this forum..

I neve can thank all of you enough,
Cookie

Petey305,

Sorry, you asked if there was anything to watch out for, and the answer is not really the feed spring should just come right up with the motor. (I think) If I am wrong can someone let us know please. As you read my feed spring broke pulling on it the way we did.

Thanks Cookie. A little update on my issue. When the feed motor was running, I was getting an awful grinding sound. The motor was working, but not sounding great...stove is in the finished basement, and I could here the feed motor upstairs in the kitchen!!

I followed your instructions to pull the feed motor, and I got it out. The auger did get stuck a couple times trying to get it out of the shaft, but simply rotating the motor/mount 90 degrees freed it up enough to pull out. I cleaned it all up, reinserted and tested. Same noise. Long story short, I think the gears/bearings in the motor were worn/ground up (seemed the sound was coming directly from the motor). Went to my local dealer and bought a new feed motor (for $189...ouch), switched the auger and inserted that. The thing is completely silent now! Thanks for the help!

Any update on your situation?

Petey305

Hello Everyone. Thought you would like to know that I now have a pellet stove that is working... YEAAA!! It took us time to finish it but it is up and running. I thank each and everyone for all of your help. It was the snap disk that was bad after all.

Cookie.

WooHoo, congratulations Cookie! I was hoping it would be that simple. How she running now? What pellets are you burning?

Hi BeGreen,
Funny you should ask. She ran fine the first nite the way it should. Now that my husband went to start it this afternoon it's not dropping the pellets. The motor is running but not pellets are falling. We are about to give up. Any idea what could have happened???? As for the pellets I'm not sure what they are. I'll let you know when I find out.

Cookie

Not familiar with your stove at all, but is it possible the feed spring could have disconnected from the gearmotor? can you see it? The t/c shouldn't have anything to do with it since the motor is turning and the pellets just aren't dropping.

Bummer. When you say the motor is running, which one? The combustion motor or the auger motor? If the auger motor is running, but no pellets it sounds like the auger is stuck or the coupling is loose. If the auger motor is not running then review the thread for items to check.

Hi ! From what my husband tells me, the stove will drop the pellets sometimes but then all of a sudden they just stop. We have no idea what is going on here. One minute it is working great the next, it's not. I know that might not be much help to go on but....
