Family went on a vacation this weekend out in PA and came across this little wood pile. Crazy how many splits are there. And there is more logs stacked than there are splits! cant even imagine how many cords are there. Couldnt even get them all in a picture. Notice me standing in the middle of the picture a the base of the pile.

Wow thats crazy, wonder if you could get a good deal with a self load. Like a sf price.

300 cord.

Definitely a cord or two more than I have. But probably not as much as bogydave or backwoods savage has! ;)

And to think, some people on vacation go to Disneyland!

Typical wood seller, pile up & it will start seasoning when delivered.
Not that I'd volunteer to stack it for them but "jeese", how will the splits on the inside of the pile ever dry out. ?
When someone comes up with an "Auto Stacker" maybe the commercial guys will get with the program.

Could you imaging walking down miles of rows of 1 cord stacked splits. separated by species?
I'll take 3 of this hickory , 2 of that white oak there & 1 of those red oak over there.
May even convince my wive to go with me wood shopping LOL :)

BogeyDave, exactly right. It's not a viable business proposition to stack on a grand scale. It takes up too much real estate and labor (or capital if you invent the "auto-stacker"). The rot in the middle is a cost of doing business, but maybe can be turned into mulch. Having said that, I guess 301 cords :)

I 'm guessing 302

Did I win?

Wow! Where was that photo taken? I'd like to see that operation in action.
