We got the parallel pump installed into my system. I need to get the Johnson controller yet but the plumbing is done and boiler is running.

Picture of the install.

Nice tidy looking job!

I am not that familiar with the plumbing /storage aspect. Why the second pump?

I added a second pump for a couple of reasons;

1. As charging of storage nears completion the delta T between return and supply narrows. I can choose a temp to have the second pump to start to flow more water it would reduce or eliminate any low fan or idling of boiler.

2. The second pump can run as a back up if 1st needs maintenance.

3. The second pump and controller would protect from overheat if main pump would fail.

4 The second pump and its controller can be wired through a battery back up in case of power failure. It would protect boiler and increase the effectiveness of my dump zone.

Will be interested in hearing about the results. Looks great.

Good points; I think I'll also build in a parallel backup pump whenever I get to actually putting a system together.

Yes, I'm also considering incorporating something like this in my system. The ever-expanding consideration list...
