Small branch with the leaves attached. Don't have surrounding tree, want to know what it is before I put time into it. Anyone recognized the leaves?

Yep, but the branch bark is deceivingly dark. Leaf pattern says Hickory.
(by the way - hickory is one of my very favorite burning woods)
 
Everything was wet, may be the dark bark thing. It was free and I will take it all. Thanks for the info, 2 with hickory is good for me.
