Is the SX-160 expansion tank overkill for my 550 gallon capacity system? I have a 490 gallon tank in the basement and the EKO 40 plus 300 ft of 1 1/4 pex. Im figuring around 550 gallons give or take. It seems the SX -110 is only 20 bucks cheaper for consideral less capacity. Also I plan to heat my future shop with a water to air heat exchanger 100ft way so that will be a little more water figuring 1inch pex the the shop.

Did you use the sizer at the Amtrol site? No harm in oversizing an expansion tank.

i have used several but seem to come up with crazy 3,000 dollar tanks. Then i read on here about guys using the 160 for 1000 gallons of storage. not sure what im doing wrong

I use the 160 for 1000 gallons it is close but have not had a problem. It seems way more than you need, look at what Bob posted.

I have close to the same set up. I used the Amtrol SX-90V from Pexsupply.com it have plenty of volume and cost under $400.00.
