Hey all; after a about a year of elapsed time, several vendors who told me a permit wasn't necessary and a why bother attitude, and umpteen hours spent researching all the ins and outs, I applied for and got a permit to install. Will be the Hampton Insert. Looked at jotul, hearthstone, vc, regency, napoleon, and more. Looked at all the codes on both sides of the border.....I'm in the Great White North. Looked at liners, hearth protection. flexible/rigid, flue temps, tiles/solid, 3/2/10, masons/installers, insulation. cord prices, R and K values, fireplace mods, and the list goes on and on.

Going with Durock over Micore, a one inch Durock build out on the existing solid masonry fireplace, and an SS liner. When I look back it seems so easy but it took one hell of a lot of learning to get to this point. And I found the forum about 4-5 weeks ago when doing a web search and ready to pack it in after all the BS. Permit office was not that familiar with wood burners. ....... "Hey, what's an EPA stove?"

I have about a cord and a half of red oak and false acacia ready to burn. Hooked up with a local arborist who handed off a lot of his stuff. "We've only just begun." Splitting wood off and on in the spring. Other wood ready for next year. Cord prices in the Toronto area are 300+ per one vendor. The heck with that.

All that's left is the install!!!!!!! That will be easy now. Plans in place, materials in place. Install in November.

Goodbye NG. Or at least a whole lot of it.

Been reading posts for the last 4-5 weeks. Helped get me back on track. Thank you all...........Warming up.

Sounds like you have it all figured out. Great job, and don't forget about the pictures.

Thanks EH. Will do........is there a thread on how to post pix.

Do you know aboout the btus on false acacia? I did a search on this but drew a blank. The arborist tells me its a really good burn.
