any experience with solo ?

i saw a comparison video a while back, between stihl, husky, and solo. i'm at work so i can't pull up streaming media. i'll try to find it and post it when i get home.

now...
i would trust it if i had set it up myself. same/similar displacemant, identical bar/chain and pressure on each. that being said, the solo SMOKED the other saws cutting thru hardwood. i know they've been around a while but i'm just curious if any of you have swung a solo and how it worked for you.

I do not beleve any saw comparison done on video's. It always done to prove what the OP want it to prove. With that said solo is a good saw just way to much hype on saws these days. Give me a solo for a 5 hour hard run and I will tell you how it compairs. ;) These 10 second runs means very little to me.

Ain't that the truth...and it certainly isn't limited to chain saws by any stretch of the imagination. Rick

I have ball park 150 cords on my 460 now, so I may need that solo a little longer than 5 hrs.lol (Not a sinal break down on the 460) Lots of chain sharpening though.;)

as i said, i DON'T trust what i saw cuz i DIDN'T do the test myself. just wondering if anyone out there actually ran one. they certainly ain't cheep!
 
The most impressive saw I have ever run was a Solo but I wouldn't own one as parts are getting harder to find.
 
Solos are getting harder to find, in general, thanks to the EPA.
 
The EPA part is true of a lot of the better saws. MFG's dumbing them down to meet restrictions. Just like everything else pay more to get less. My old 7.5hp lawn tractor could do more work than this 20 hp hydro I have now. Fact is I had to go out and find another old one just to haul stuff around with for fear of blowing the hydro tranny on the newer one.

You got it.My 1975 JD 110 with 10HP Kohler is a real beast.Built like a tank,is the last year of that series & the heaviest at 775lbs w/ 38" mower deck.No trouble pulling a 1200+ lb log on the level.Not much level ground where its used though,its quite steep on those hills.Still pulls that loaded trailer w/ 500+lbs & my 175lb lardass on the seat very easily up those steep slopes.Stuff sure isnt made like it used to be thats for sure.

Just had one of those tranny's on my workbench. Nobody builds a gear drive that stout for garden tractors anymore.

PM wkpoor. I think he's sleeping the summer off from Hearth.com but I know he runs a couple Solo's.
