I have a new quadrafire 5100 insert that I just installed. I was wondering what the optimum temperature to burn it at. Also wondering what the max temperature I should avoid to not cause any stove problems. I have a stove thermometer installed on the front top lip of the stove. When putting a couple small splits in it does climb up pretter fast from the 400 range to the 650 range. The manual does not mention anything about top temperatures. Dropped a email to Quadrafire but did not get a response yet. Anybody with a Quadrafire out there have any suggestions.

As everyone else will mention, speak with your dealer. Aside from that, prolonged exposure to temperatures over 750 is not too healthy for the stove. Note, you have an insert, so check where your temperature is coming from... are you placing the thermometer directly onto the burn chamber, or is there an air plenum underneath where you have it? All stoves are not the exactly the same, but they are more similar than dissimilar. My insert's optimal temperature is 600-650. Yes, there are occasional forays into the 700+ range, but she generally won't go much higher than that, unless I am burning old dried body parts, improper financial documents, or my wife's photographs of her boyfriends...

Yea, those body parts will overfire the best of 'em.
