Do you guys or gals ever get drunk and overfire your stove or screw something up? Is woodburning like driving an automobile - better done sober than drunk? C'mon fess up! :)

I never overfired but almost fell in to my stove pipe while it was going full boar. Not Good. More careful now

Sorry, I would have posted this a few minutes ago but suddenly I was thirsty... Had to run and get a beer to try this one out...Oh wait a minute...The insert's not installed yet...Oh well, I guess it's just me, a beer and the cozy electric baseboard heater for tonight :-S

Only way I can stay upn long enough to load the overnight burn is to drink. If not I fall asleep at 11:00 p.m.

Most of you know about the VCcastings door latches on both inserts and stoves. I found out one night that the little wood handled tool should be used to open the damper and door. Ouch! And echoing another posters' observation, it didn't hurt until much later.

My only problem with booze and fire is...if I'm halfway through a good burn, and the booze and wonderful radiant heat put me to sleep, I will wake up 3-4 hours later to a stove that has to be relit. And my head usually hurts!!

People do this kind of thing sober?

we had logistics problems most remote areas do not have enough cabs or, no one could figure out who was going to tbe the desingated drivers.
Craig did not seem to be into it. after that it just got hidden in the sea of post. I was all for it. The other problem was finding enough moderators to over see the cat outside
air debates. Then most of the PE contingent lived too far away to attend. IT would not be much of a gathering without a PE debate.
I had to make sure I had equal representation of husky and stihl owners. I was going to contact a woodman for logs to cut up but feared we would be shorted

MO , MountainStoveGuy , Bruce , cozy heat , myself and others would have to jump the next empty coal train back to Pennsylvania to meet up.

It was my understanding when this was all getting worked out that the "rumor was" that Ole' ELKer wanted us all up there for a log cutting competition and it turns out........ it was just to cut his fire wood for next year.
Bread, water and a bail of straw to sleep on and we had to bring all our chainsaws and gear.

Yeah ......Ole' ELKer had plans for us alright .

I still have a difficult time believing that this crew never did have their get-together. Sounds as tho it would've been a great experience.

the thing was everybody forgot about it because they had to much to drink.
and if people made it there i think nobody would remember how good a weekend they had because they were to drunk.
any way you look at it sam adams profits

Quotes from famous drunks:

Sometimes I reflect back on all the beer I have consumed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."
- by Jack Handy

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.
- Frank Sinatra

Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.
- Ernest Hemingway

Drinking provides a beautiful excuse to pursue the one activity that truly gives me pleasure, hooking up with fat, hairy girls.
- Ross Levy

A woman drove me to drink and I didn't even have the decency to thank her.
- W.C. Fields

What contemptible scoundrel has stolen the cork to my lunch?
- Tee Mans

When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.
- Henny Youngman

24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence?
- Stephen Wright

When we drink, we get drunk. When we get drunk, we fall asleep. When we fall asleep, we commit no sin. When we commit no sin, we go to heaven. Sooooo, let's all get drunk and go to heaven!
- Brian O'Rourke

After a long day toting my children from function to function then shopping with my wife and having to correct the children time and again a couple glasses of red wine and a fire aren't so much to ask are they?

Vc offered to sponser it even giving plant tours But them i realizesd almost all stoves most members owned stoves that were stamped made in tiawan.
On the flip side all pe owners harman and jotuls would not attend.
Then I thought about beer sponsors
St Louis too far away plus the Co contingent would not attend Co was again too far away but mabe worth it if the two coors light twins attended.
nobody had a problem with sam adams except again our VA guys it was too far away

Phillips Morris was interested but as it came to pass, those plans went up in smoke.

To me it sure would have been fun I would have had to promise my wife not to be arguementive and to be on my best behavor. Which probably would have put me out of character. I would have spent too much time ycking it up with bb and roo.
I would have brought my electric splitter and invited all to try. I have a couple rounds of American Rock Elm that all could take a wack at and numb their funny bone.
Warren already told me he would have no part of it
Eric was going to do a chainsaw sharpening clinic where he flips the saw upside down to get a better angle at it. and bring some home brew.
To get Craig to come he was going to sing and play the blues plus grill vegie burgers. without spiniach.
roo wanted to come but he was waiting to feed the next log into the PE He needed a 48 hour window plus airport security was a problem with a dozen huskys
MSG wanted to come but he is on the fast track in familly developement Congrats for up comming #2
Mo wanted to come but he was procrastinating as only Mo can
Sandor promised but he got a better offer or promise
I contacted Dane Harman but he refered me to his dealer
I contacted Jotul but they were too busy figuring what to do about the newly accquired Scan line

ok........its 11:40 and i just returned from bro in laws fish fry, 1/2 crocked and its 35 degrees. and now i'm afraid to tend to the stove! i'll keep ya posted. wish me luck.

no typos. you'll make it bruce.

the Idear occured to me why not the NW for the gathering I would love to meet Begreen and see his interesting his home reno
So I figured I would contact Billy Gates he has the campus and grounds to accomidate us. But then it occured to me
too many members use Apples and would not come.

then I wonder whether the lurkers would be interested in the gathering. but the thought also occured to me, they could be
Volzang owners maned with their fire extinguishers and could not leave the stove unattended. or others were too busy trying to purchase used Scandias at yard sales

Yikes honey, quick close the curtains, the inspectors coming!! :wow:  I love the image of the Chinese firedrill with the Volgelzangs.

Subject of local controvery, the Gates house may have been designed on Macs, or part of it. http://www.architosh.com/news/1999-07/0730-gateshousemac.phtml

40000 sq ft McMonument might not be able to contain all of us, but at least there is a fireplace in the dining room. Yeah, there'd be some good tours out here. Visit Lopi to see the new Leyden being made, PE's are made about 90 miles north of here. Maybe we could get over to the Quad factory and have a Harman-Quad duel out. It would give Carrie a good excuse to pound on Country's door. Bring your bumpershoot. After 3 month hiatus, the wet stuff is slowly coming back.

Drunk woodstove tending? Is that an event in the arctic olympics? I prefer a quiet beer or three in front of the stove with a book... like this little gem:

From an excellent book on the history of beer called "The Secret Life of Beer" (or something like that) by Alan D. Eames

"Beer is good" -unknown, 5000 BC

"It is better to think of church while in the ale house, than to think of the ale house while in church" -Martin Luther
