Are the red maples the only ones that pop out with the early pistol red flowers ?
I've been trying to identily the variety of trees I have. I have several type of hickory and several types of oak, but for now I think one type of maple. I think it is red but the fall color is usual just a nice pale yellow.

Red maple leaves have serrated edges, and 3 fingers(?), sugar has 5 finger palmate leaves,no serration...

Post a pic and we should be able to identify it. One of the leaves with twigs, and one of the bark of a branch

Whenever I think of red maples I think of the cultivars that are scarlet red in the fall and have a nice global shape. My maples are big and up there.......100 feet
I have a mature woods and they are all reaching for the sun. I occasionally see some color, but most winters they are yellow leaved. They have a darkish serrated type bark.
They will get the pistol flowers in early spring. I think red maple.............fooled me
