In The Woods
Did some splitting early today (thank god) we hit 98 on the Radio Shack special. This was the Pine we dropped about two or three weeks ago.

The third picture is some stumps that I'll need removed before the fireplace goes in.

Looks good Zap. Way to beat the heat. Do you burn the pine in the house or save that for outside?

ohio woodburner, we have it for both but this will go in the stacks for two years down the road if not sooner. We have two cord of white pine and Hemlock for this year, then 1.86 cord per year for the next two, need about .62 of a cord then I can call it quits on the shoulder season wood. I'llhave cut 4 plus cord out of almost 6 cord this year.

Thanks TimJ, this split better then the last pine I split, not sure why but I won't complain.

Ahh...a shady woodlot...lucky thing you. I have yet to burn any pine or cedar in the wood stove yet. I have got plenty of it around the place but never burned any. It tends to pop too much for a fireplace....burns on the carpet will get ya killed...ha
Keep up the good work...

bogydave, puttin along since we are good on the hardwood. The fireplace all depends when I get the stump out, I'll start on the stump removal this week. I'm not sure how much I'll get done because we have two young men staying with us for the week, the oldest being eight wants to stack wood but I think the stump removal would be a good start. ;)
Shadow&Flame, I thought by August most of this chit would be done, can't wait for some 30 degree mornings, I'm sick of this heat. We took the boat out today (left the camera home for a change) the water is down 10-16 feet.
Scotty Overkill, what in the hell are you doing insulating in this weather!>>
PapaDave, this pine split great, not sure what the difference is but after my last experience splitting pine I was ready to go up in to grab more hemlock. We will se what this storm knocks down or if we even get it but it's time for me to cut some cherry leaners.

That pine of yours sure makes some nice clean looking splits

Thats exactly what I was thinking, beautiful clean splits, great pictures!

Zap that pine looks great! I wish I had a supply of pine like that - for shoulder season and to hear all of my guests tell me "I didn't think you can burn pine!"

jwoair23, I'll trade you three cord of pine for 1/2 a cord of oak.

Good enough for the guys out west, good enough for the spoiled hardwood burners on the east coast.:)

good stuff zap. this too will be my first year burning pine. i probably have about 1 cord split and dry. 2-3 cords stacked in rounds and another 6 or 7 big BIG BIG mothers laying in the woods.

i have access to unlimited free hardwood so i'm asking myself
'why am i bothering with this pine?'

its the same amount of work for 1/2 the btu's

and again i ask myself
'am i stupid?'

sometimes i really wonder.

OT

onetracker, two reasons I'm cutting it. 1. It will clean up our woodlot. 2. We will use less hardwood (hopefully). We are far enough ahead on our hardwood that it's not a big waste of time, the bigger pine logs we will mill once the heat gets out of here.
