How important is it to have some sort of insulation from an efficiency standpoint on top of your baffle. I ran mine last year and just cleaned it out to realize there is no insulation on top of it, also should that baffle plate be level or should it slope towards the rear of the stove, thanbks.

What stove are we talking about here? Please put your stove model in your signature so folks can give accurate responses.

Thanks

Thanks mellow, you have been a great help! It says directly in the manual that there is insulation on top of it, I love my insert the way it is and boy did it save me a ton of money, I just want to make sure it is operating as efficiently as it should.

Not to hijack your thread, but can I use kaowool on an Englander 30 instead of the baffles (which are disintegrating)?

Yea, that is for sure a hijack but to answer your question, replace the baffles, they need to be there for reflecting the heat back to the firebox, what most do is put the kaowool on top of that baffle to help seal the cracks on the sides, just be careful not to bunch it up and block the exhaust.
