Long story short, after home inspection for new ins company I received email that pad needed to be t least 18in from sides and at least that from ember door. The manul clearly states that you need 6in sides, and 6 from glass. I sent insurence rep the installtion manual.any suggestions?

That really stinks.

You might try and contact your local county/municipal inspector and ask them to confirm whether they have any different regs. My municipality just follows the manufacturer's regs. If that is the case, you could send that along as well.

However, I very much suspect that they have the rules that they have. Unfortunately, and unless they are violating applicable law, they are entitled to create whatever underwriting requirements they wish. Not that I am a fan of insurance companies.....

Had the same issue. Sent the manufactures specs to my insurance provider and everything was fine. I think they had the stove as a wood stove.

yep, many insurer's dont differentiate between a wood stove and pellet stove, so you often see generic wood stove guidelines as the boilerplate for the insurance co's....UL listed appliance, follow the manual.....most are even downlodeable if the insurance company wants to verify.....more likely tho its some office functionary just dotting i's and crossing t's
