I'm too confused on what to buy. I recently moved to a newer house. I had a St. Croix Afton Bay for 4 years in my old house and it was flawless. Am I weird for wanted to switch? I went from a raised ranch where it was in our family room/basement to a 2500 sq ft colonial where I am thinking of puting a new pellet stovet in the living room, hoping the heat will travel upstairs to the bedrooms. Any help would be appreciated!

All good stoves.......harman P68, then P61A....I would forgo the Advance, quite alot less heat output. As for the Enviro, cant say.......

That's a lot of sqft for the M55. I'd opt for the Maxx M and be sure you got plenty left over. Its not just the extra BTU's, its also the large CFM blower moving the air around. P68 is also a good choice.

I live in a colonial and I have my P61a in the living room. I have no issues getting heat in to the bedrooms.

same here....P61, 2 story, no fans, no heat registers.....been doing it 12 years, have only burned oil for hot water, my baseboard water heat hasnt run in 12 years.....I know, since the thermostat is set at 50, and the curculaters are OFF....works for me as well.

Havent been on since I posted the question. Thanks for all the responses. Wife saw the Harman XXV and wants that instead because of the looks. I believe it can output 50,000 btu. I am hoping this will get the job done as I had the St. Croix Afton Bay in the old house, bottom of a raised ranch and rarely put it above level 2. Sweatshirts, blankets, and slippers are a must in the winter months.

On a sidenote I spoke with a couple other dealers that didn't carry Harmons and they had nothing but negatives to say about Harman Stoves. I think they are jealous or just want my money :)

Its probly people that bought that fancy stove thinkin it would take care of itself.

Harmans are tried and true. Don't sweat it.

Smoke is right, the Harman QC is second to none. Whichever one you buy, just make sure its the right one for your application. There are some pretty significant btu differences between the XXV and the P61A.

I'm running a 2011 XXV, and other than the PITA long bolt on the combustion blower, I love it.

In fact, my XXV is my second favorite thing in the house right now, just behind my daughter and just ahead of my wife.

I'd say it a pretty safe bet to say that your wife doesn't visit this site!

Hey smoke show, I just went on a wiseheat.com for reviews and there were a lot of negative reviews in 2012 for the xxv. I didn't see them when I researched the p61. It is making me nervous. What do you think?

Friend of mine has an XXV heating the upstairs of a split level ranch that has a front to back additional room with cathedral ceiling. Stove is in the add on room. Heats the whole 1st floor with maybe a circulating fan to get some heat down the hallway to the bedrooms. No oil being used for heat there.

She has had it since 2010 and loves it. Maintains it OK, but not nearly a fanatic about it and has had no issues.

edit: You will like the XXV in the living room as it is WAY quieter than the P6xx series. Looks better and is only warm to the touch; her cats sleep on it when it running full bore

If you can stand to look at another stove, the Enerzone brand has a 'EuroMax' 70,000 BTU unit, bottom feed, 500 CFM distribution blower. You can also attach an optional distritution kit that turns it into a small furnace.

The electronics are pretty slick and if you want to see a video of how it works look at this video. (same electronics as the Osburn).

Of course, I am biased since I work for the company but there is a dealer not far from you... Ashleigh Hearth & Home on Creek Road.

In any case, any of the brands you mentioned will serve you well.

I went to the Ashleigh by me (I used to live 5 min away before I moved a week ago), they kind of bashed the Harman as well as the previous St. Croix Afton Bay I purchased 4 years ago. I know they wanted to make a sale but I think there is a gentler way of getting their point across. That same day, I ran into a friend who had their gas stove cleaned out. They were there 15 minutes, charged them $125 or $150 and got ash on there brand new carpet! Not making this up, I took this as a sign.

On a side note I did see the EuroMax and was very impressed. If it wasn't for my wife wanting something prettier this would be a big contender. The 120 lb hopper had me at hello large hopper!

I wish you had a store in my area :)

For the price I'm paying I might sleep on it and/or with it...lol

It's unfortunate... I dont know Ashleigh's folks personally. Dealers are like people, they may have 'bad hair days' sometimes.

I wish more dealers would come on Hearth.com to see how perception can affect sales in a big way...
