I paid sales tax on my stove last fall when i bought mine in Troy N.Y.

I bought mine in February of 2011. No sales tax on the pellet stove for me. There was tax on the piping and hearth pad though.

Why would the stove be exempt ? Full sales tax as far as I know.

The pellets go as geating fuel and have a reduced tax, if you are a farmer you might get them 'tax free' - usually works when you buy at a local supply store rather than box store.

No Tax on Pellets in most counties in NY (some 4%) as far as I know stove & parts taxable

THE SALES TAX ON WOOD PELLETS IN NYS ARE A COUNTY TAX AND 4% IS CORRECT SO IT DEPENDS ON THE COUNTY WHERE THE PELLETS ARE PURCHASED. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF NO SALES TAX ON A STOVE, EVEN WHEN THE STIMULUS WAS AVAILABLE THERE WAS SALES TAX ON THE STOVES. WHEN SERVICING OR INSTALLING A STOVE THERE SHOULD BE NO TAX INVOLVED AS IT IS A SERVICE AND NOTHING IS BEING SOLD.
