So I called around today & got some prices on pellets & this place http://visitsmartenergy.com/t/category.php?id_category=22 seems to have the best prices & selection. My plan is to pick up 2 tons of pro pellets, 2 tons of somerset pellets, & 2 tons of uncle jeds. I burned 4 tons of pro's last year & thought they were decent but it was also my first year with the pellet stove. so this year I figured I would get some better performing pellets. I know everyone has good things to say about the somersets & jeds but the other brand i was considering was the kirkland pellets. Has anyone tried these & if so how did you like them? Another brand I have available locally for 200 a ton is issabella soft wood, anyone know anything about those? thanks for any help.

All 3 of those are great.. Uncle Jeds I have never burned, but get great reviews (some may say to buy all 6 of Jeds!) The Somersets are slightly better than Pro Pellet. But Pro Pellets are great Pellets also....

Having 2 of each ton is a great stash.... No comments on the Kirkland or Isabellas. But most Softwoods are decent pellets. Most... But not all.

Menard's in Big Rapids has somersets for 199.00 this week and the Lowes on Plainfield has Greene Team for 175.00
Also don't forget about Corn Energy on 82 and Elm. I bought my Propellets there for 15 a ton cheaper then smart energy in grant.

I just missed tractor supplies 25.00 off sale on ton pallets of somersets. GRRRR. I would like somersets at 200 a ton.

I checked out corn energy's website. no info about pellets I sent them an e-mail asking what brands they had available & prices. Still waiting for response. Thanks for the response though. might pick up a couple tons of green team instead of pro pellets.

I thought the pro's were pretty good last year but I tried a few bags of other brands as i found them last year and by comparison the pro's were more ashy than a few. I would love to buy all of the best pellet i could but the $ situation wont allow that. So Ill have to mix it up with some less expensive pellets. + I would like a veriety to choose from this year.

I checked with Home Depot and Lowes in Muskegon. Depot did not have pellets and Lowes had Michigan pellets @ $175 a ton. Not sure what Michigan pellets are? I checked with Farm & Family they said they were getting Fruitport pellets that are manufacturered in Fruitport. Never heard of these.

lowes actually has 2 different brands. I looked into them & nobody had much of anything good to say about them. The fruitport pellets I havent tried but I know they started making them last year not sure where in fruitport though. I saw them at the feed store in nunica & they wanted way to much (I think it was like 4.50 a bag) just to try out so i didnt.

The Fruitport pellets are absolutely junk. The Isabella are O.K.-low ash but low heat. Also, I would never buy Michigan Wood Pellets out of Holland, MI-low heat, tons of ash. I have mostly Somerset and Jed's in my stash.

Called lowes on plainfield & they are expecting somersets within the next month. Im thinking they will be at the normal 175 a ton price.

I only have two tons so far for the season, both Somersets.. I will be getting more by November...

I agree that the Michigan Wood Pellets are junky. I wish it wasn't so, since I am only about 20 miles from the plant in Holland. The ones I tried had LOTS of fines, were very ashy and low heat. I'm waiting for Lowe's or Menard's to get some Somersets in.

I'm still searching for a good pellet at a reasonable price in the Muskegon area.
Thanks for the input.

In Southwest VA AWFs Farm Bureau $199.99, Southern States Co-Op 219.00, Greenways @ Tractor Supply $211.00

Michigan and Maeder brothers are really bad .. I like the Somersets and the Pro Pellets do good in my stove nice and hot, but just a tad more ash..
