Last night was a cooler one. When we got to cabin it was 58 degrees inside and 65 outside. Overnight it got down to 43 degrees. I had to run one of the electric oil heaters. Quite a difference from the last few weeks where we had some 90+ temps. It felt like fall was in the air. I couldn't burn a fire if I wanted to though. Burn ban in effect and with the recent Cle Elum fires I wouldn't risk it anyway.

I couldn't imagine how many cords of wood I would go through if I had to burn until mid-August. I'm guessing the over/under would be around 20.

Neumsky, Jharkin, we have the fire on tonight, just to take the chill off the home, got up to 55deg today, which was hot enough, but down to approx 45 tonight, it only rained for half the day, but we got 3 " between yesterday, and the night before, woke up in the middle of the night thinking someone had pushed the house under a waterfall!

I just couldnt handle that kind of heat you guys are getting across there :ZZZ

Watched the leaves raining down from my walnut trees as I mowed today. It really looks like fall out there. Won't be long until we're lighting the stove(s)!

Been there. Spent a while. I like to see the sun every once in a while. ;lol

Spent some time in Scotland and I loved it...didnt see the winter but the summer was nice. I live in an oven and the sun shines most all the time.
Nice to see a bit of a change...but we have very mild winters so I cant complain in that department. The only time you need a fire here is about
mid Dec to mid Feb...and sometimes not even that. Its 11:15pm and still 80f outside...I am ready for the cooler weather!

We got a hot day today, got up to 70deg f, everyone at the work was dying from heat, except one guy who comes from Portugall, he said it was cool
We had a frost on Friday morning, getting closer to Jotul time of year :)

So when do the "Still burning" threads get replaced with "Burning again" threads. Seems we're close to blurring the lines, here. :p

Yeah, see what you mean, we werent burning today, but when we start burning again (will probably be the end of this week) then it will probably be the start of the burning season for us ==c.

Here in Northern Ohio, we are way under our normal rainfall and had almost 20 days in July over 90° (in a row) breaking a record that was 70 yrs old... Hot, Humid, and Dry :(

Waiting on burning season...

Same here in SE Michigan!

Today we crossed 48 days over 90 for the high. A/C is still easier to feed than a stove.
That is similar to what I expect from a tropical region ==c

I heard today that so far there have been over 20,000 record high temps set this summer. So much for global cooling and a lack of sunspots or whatever.

In 2009, we set 3000 record LOW temperatures in the month of July alone.

I recall another number of low-temperature records (115 of them?) being broken on a single day in June of this year.

We've been keeping "records" for less than 100 years in many or most of those locations. Hardly sufficient to demonstrate any trend on a geological timeline.

My two year old is convinced it's always summer... he doesn't remember winter.

I couldn't even imagine having a fire! We have had one of the hottest summers on record in the mid west. August has been a little milder but still in the 80's and 90's. June and July were like a typical August and August has been like a typical June. I do not think we have had a total of a 1/2 inch of rain in the past three months, that is a total for ALL 3 months. The trees have really taken a hit and are very stressed.
I processed about 5-6 cords for next year in the sweltering heat this summer, lost 10lbs and I am ready for fall!
Yep. I've been here 25 years and have never seen the like. It was over 100F for a couple of weeks, with some 105s in there. Humidity during the heat of the day was in the 20s, in a normal Summer would be 45%. Lots of breeze instead of the doldrums we usually get in Summer. Best wood-drying Summer ever, but rough on the farmers, lawns and trees. Finally getting some rain now. Will probably fire up the stove here and there starting in mid-October.

With the heat we have had this summer...I am like your two year old and not able to remember when it was cool either...ha It has been so hot and dry we are loosing alot of trees around the place and I have been watering the ones close to the house all summer. I sure am ready for the cooler weather but at least we got a little rain out of Isaac, thou it was a bit of a dud. Only got two inches of rain here....every bit helped thou.

In 2010/11 we had our worst winter since 1915, the river that runs past our house was frozen to about 15-20" of ice, even the rapids that in one place is like a waterfall froze solid, normally if it freezes, its only 2 or 3 inches.
I ve attached some photos

Thanks Scott, if Scott is your last name then we are sure to be related! Quite a common surname here.

Hi Angus, sadly the old Fergie is in a bit of a state at the moment, not had her running for a while.
Keep meaning to get her shipshape again, on my to do list, but the list keeps getting longer
