In The Woods
Just came from the bank, I was talking with the teller when she started talking about some Oak she wants removed from her property. They had someone trim up a big Oak so it's just some bigger limbs along with some Maple that is free for the taking.

I'm taking another look at it this afternoon, the Maple was in front of the house (not the best but you have to take it all) the Oak is in the back of the house, I'll take a good look later.

Wonder what the wife will think! !!!

Zap is slummin' it! WooHoo!

Careful with those yard birds, Those'll be more likely to have metal and stuff in 'em

The person lives a good drive from us so I'll make sure it's worth it.

Looks like Saturday could be a interesting one, time to make sure the chains are sharper.

The wife said sure, why not add Oak to the stacks.

Good luck buddy! Stay safe out in the weather, try to get some pics for us. Nothing wrong with a scrounge now and then!

If we get hit with some bad winds tomorrow which causes some trees to come down then I might cancel the scrounge, if it misses us I'll make the call.

Think of the character it will bring helping you relate to those who rely on scrounging. ;)
Safe cutting.

I know if it wan't Oak you wouldn't do it as you have all the other wood you need. You are just curious about this Oak stuff as I know it doesn't grow in your forest. Have fun zap.

Is the wood cut up already zap? Are you sure if it's not 14.75 inches you'll be able to take it. Lol

I finally saw Denise again at the bank today, they still have the Oak so it might be on for tomorrow. I will call tonight just to make sure what time is good for them, I don't have my camera but did get a leaf out of the yard which I will post tonight.

Eco, it's cut but not to length, 14.75 it is. The reason for the big delay is we had someone in our family that was in ICU. Things are coming along pretty good so far, we will find out more next week.

Sure sign of a bad winter is coming. Zap is scrounging wood

Not sure where you live, but that curved base of the leaf makes me think southern red oak. We have tons of that here. Probably is a third of my stacks. Nice wood but slow to season.

This Oak is in Northern NY about 10 miles from Canada.

I take it back then. It must be northern red.

I'll give them a call about 9:15 in the morning, if I can get the wood tomorrow I'll load up the 660 and the 075 then head in. All the wood is from the limbs that were trimmed up so there should be nothing for metal in the wood.

Nice zap! With the amount of wood you have, that oak will burn nice in a couple years. I'll be doing the same tomorrow, as long as the winds stay calm for felling. A friend and myself should be splitting pin oak 50/50, roughly 5 cords worth. Its going to be a full day. Temps dropping tonight to low to mid 20's. Be well
